Where Heritage and Life are celebrated.

William Reid Stanton, Jr.

February 24, 1940- April 1, 2021

William Reid Stanton Jr. (Bill or Butch), 81, passed away April 1st 2021, at his home in Calvert county with his loving wife by his side. Mr. Stanton was born February 24 1940 to Gwendolyn and William Stanton Sr.

Bill had a profound passion for character, duty, and family. Whenever possible he made a point to spend time with his family, especially his 3 grandchildren. He was always happy to offer his home and resources for a holiday, a family vacation, or even a dinner. And over the years he enthusiastically attended every school event, milestone moment, and local visit from any of his family. When he wasn’t spending time directly with family, he became incredibly involved in his church and in his local community. It was there where he, among many other services, most notably helped build a new homeless shelter which helped reshape the lives of many. Bill touched the masses in more ways than anyone could have ever imagined

He is survived by his wife, Janice Stanton; his 2 sons and their spouses, J. Troy and Maggie Stanton, and Douglas and Crystal Stanton; his grandchildren, William Kane Stanton, Garrett Stanton, Maddi Stanton and her husband William Johnson; and an entire clan of extended family.

A funeral mass was held through his beloved church, St. John Vianney, attended by close family and friends.

Janice and family. I am so sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. Knowing Bill through our infamous carpooling days back and forth to GSA, he was the consummate husband and father. There’s so many memories of him, all good. May he Rest In Peace.

    Dear Janice and family,
We were so sorry to hear that Butch had been battling cancer and that he lost the battle this week. Although we don’t get to spend much time together because of our distance, we do think of you all often and so glad we have kept in touch through FB. You have a wonderful family to comfort you and a God who loves you all more than you can imagine! We are keeping you in our prayers at this difficult time. Love,
    Sharron and Wayne

Jan, you and Bill have made this neighborhood a warm neighborhood and I can never thank you enough for the times you have been there for me and my sons. I can still see Bill sitting at the breakfast table after spending the day here at the house watching one or the other of the boys. You are in our prayers. Kris sends his love from Estonia and Kevyn from Pittsburgh. Bill made such an impression on them. So very sorry for your loss. His life was such a blessing to so many.

Sorry to learn of his loss. We met at a Chippingwood community association meeting. Our neighbor (Burt Hubbard) often spoke highly of him as related to the homeless shelter contributions. Our condolences to the family. God bless
