Thank you Mr. Durbin. You had such an enormous impact on my life, I don’t really have the words to describe it. You were a wonderful teacher, and you made your class a refuge for a nerdy kid that didn’t quite fit in. Yours was the classroom I wanted most to be in each day, and you were the teacher I trusted and respected most throughout my years at Ryken. You fostered a love of learning in me that I have even today, and you believed in me at a time when I truly needed it. Thank you.

English class and the Drama Club. Wonderful memories of a great mentor and kind human being. After the loss of his wife & step-daughter, I saw the school surround him with the love and support he needed to get through that painful time. He then returned to school and gave so much in return. I’ll cherish those school memories and also the ones I have when I returned for visits with him over the years afterwards… Bobby-Dee, you helped me appreciate what a teacher means to a lost student. I’m a better person for having had you in my life and I’m glad I had the chance to tell you that.

RIP Mr. D. I never had the honor to be in your class but still remember your kindness to all students. I never heard a bad thing said about you. Truly remarkable for a high school teacher.

Mr. Durbin was an angel on earth! He was my Latin teacher at SMR and I still talk about how sweet and kind of a person he was. When he smiled and laughed he lit up a room! He is one of those people you don’t ever forget! RIP Mr. Durbin! Heaven gained one special angel!

Bobby came into my life when I married his brother Chuck. He was always fun to be around. He loved to go to antique shops and explore the beaches here in Florida. He always brought such thoughtful gifts you could tell they were from his heart. Rest In Peace Bobby you will always be in our hearts and prayers.

I will cherish my memories as a student of Mr. Durbin. He was absolutely one in a million and such a kind soul. I’m so saddened to hear of his passing – but I smile knowing he had such a lasting positive mark on hundreds of his students, including myself.

Tommy and Bobby Durbin were fraternal twins who lived on Main Street in DuPont City about 18-20
miles east of Charleston, WV. They went to Belle Elementary Grade School with me and in the 7th grade
they entered Charleston Catholic High School.
They were friends of mine in Grade School, but the seemed to disappear when they entered the 7th grade.
I hope he enjoys the peace he has earned.

I played a lot of baseball and tennis with Bob and Tom Durbin in elementary school and at the beginning of junior high school in the 1950s. They were great friends and we had a lot of fun in the wholesome atmosphere of an innocent little town in Dupont City, WV. I am sorry to learn about Bob’s passing, although to a better place. Wish I knew what happened to Tom. Many memories.
