Pedro Friederick Melendez Arreaga, 43, of Chesapeake Beach passed away January 7, 2024. He was born April 22, 1980 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Pedro Melendez Garcia and Claribel Arreaga Alicea. Pedro grew up in Puerto Rico, where he enjoyed playing volleyball, surfing and became an attorney. He married Carla Alayon Gonzalez on February 16, 2008 and they lived in Puerto Rico before moving to Virginia with their son Fernando in 2014. While living there, they felt in love with the Chesapeake Bay and decided to move there in August of 2022. Pedro worked as an environmental attorney with the US Department of the Interior, working with offshore renewable energy projects. Pedro was an excellent attorney and very passionate about his work. He loved fishing and spending all the time he could in the bay and rivers, traveling, camping with his family, and coaching his son to help him achieve his basketball goals. Pedro was a loving son, brother, friend, husband and excellent father.
Pedro is survived by his wife Carla Michell Alayon Gonzalez, son Fernando Carlo Melendez Alayon, mother Claribel Arreaga Alicea, father Pedro Melendez Garcia, and sisters Glorybel Melendez Arreaga and Omayra Melendez Caraballo.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Pedro’s name can be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
