Mary Elizabeth King Copsey, 97, of Prince Frederick passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on June 18, 2023. She was born on June 8, 1926 in Maryland to Alice M. King and raised in Calvert county. Mary attended Calvert High School and graduated class of 1945. She was a diligent worker and took great pride in the many jobs she held throughout her life; she was a waitress at Stinnett’s restaurant in Chesapeake Beach, a farmer, a bus driver, and a cafeteria manager for Calvert County Public schools, where she cared deeply for the students she served, made sure they were well fed, and that no meals ever went to waste. She would give anything she could to help others, and devoted much of her spare time to volunteer work for Meals On Wheels. She married Webster Copsey on February 23, 1946. Mary was a loving homemaker, and valued the precious time she spent with her family; she especially enjoyed taking her children to their sports games, and fishing and crabbing on the bay with her husband. Mary extended her care and concern to her beloved pet dogs and cats, as well as all the animals on the farm. She was also known for her sweet tooth, and was always sure to treat herself for all her hard work with plenty of ice cream and sweets.
Mary is survived by her son Roy Copsey and wife Stephanie of Arizona, her daughter Lavonne S. Chase of St. Leonard, and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Webster Copsey, her mother, Alice King, and her sons Louis Franklin “Flea” Copsey, and Jeffrey T. Copsey.

June 27 – Obituary: Mary Elizabeth King Copsey
I didn’t know Ms. Copsey personally, however, about 17-18 years ago, I would drop my oldest son off at Calvert Elementary for the BAS program. It was early. I’d have my younger son (2 years) with me. Every time, Ms. Copsey saw my little one, she would give him a GIANT sugar cookie. She smiled as she handed it to him. He shyly took it. I’d thank her. She did this many times over.
She was so kind. After that year, I’d see her jeep in the morning heading to work. I’d smile. What a sweet woman. She didn’t have to do that. Thank you Ms. Copsey!

Lavonne,
When I think of getting old and my final days — I would wish to have a daughter like you — in my corner — holding my hand. You made your Mom’s final years as good as they could be.
Hugs,
Laurie

It is with great sadness to hear of Mary’s passing. Lavonne I hope my children are half as dedicated to me as you have been to Mary. It was a please to spend time with her doing activities at the center. She loved her bingo and getting her nails done. She loved her coffee you would bring her and her snacks.
May she rest in peace and may you find comfort in knowing she loved you very much. Much love to you.

Our deepest condolences to you, Lavonne. You have been so loving and dedicated to your Mother, especially these last few hard years with her. Such love you gave, to be with her everyday and provide for her well being. She is now your guardian Angel and knows all that you have done for her. And of course, our Lord saw all that you did as well. Smile for the life you had on earth with your Mother, and smile knowing you will see her again. Love and prayers to you.
