Katherine Jean Absher
September 11, 1958 – May 6, 2019

Katherine Jean Absher, a vibrant woman who was full of energy and light, passed away at the age of 60 after succumbing to Pancreatic cancer on Monday May 6, 2019. Katherine courageously fought a difficult battle against the disease for two years prior to her death, becoming an inspiration to those who knew and loved her. She was born to the late John Francis Hessman and Marion Agnes Hessman (Casey) in Washington, DC on September 11, 1958.
Katherine spent over 20 years as a successful mortgage broker followed by 10 years with the Federal Government (FDIC and USDA). In addition to her professional achievements, Katherine was also a loving sister, mother to four children, and a dedicated, caring wife. She will always be remembered for her beauty, curiosity, enthusiasm, sense of humor and passion for life. May we continue to draw strength from her unwavering determination to challenge the odds and to never give up while remaining the picture of poise and grace.
Katherine’s memory will live on through her Husband, Richard A. Absher, Jr.; four children, son Jack Pruitt and wife Megan, son Richard Adam Absher, daughter Casey Jones and husband Scott, daughter Kimberly Absher, and her two grandsons; Denny Jones and Jack W. Pruitt, along with numerous relatives and friends.
Following the service, there will be a celebration of life at Honey’s Harvest Farm, 5801 Brooks Woods Rd., Lothian, MD 20711 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Katherine is so gorgeous in this picture. I miss talking and texting with her. She was one of my best friends. We could talk about every and any thing. Our shopping trips were always funny and costly. 😂. Katherine will forever have a special place in my heart and memories. I continue to pray for Richard, the children, grand children and siblings. Love you all. Brenda
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of our beloved Katherine. I worked with her at USDA, and she was a pleasure. A hard worker, full of energy and humor. She fit right into our USDA family, and we miss her tremendously. She loved you all dearly and was over the moon with happiness about her grandchildren. I am so happy she was able to spend the last years with her beloved family. We will miss her. We send our love and prayers to the family. Lara Ashy/Ashy Family
I was so heart broken to hear the news of Katherine passing. We worked closely together at USDA. She was not only a co-worker but a friend. She was a hard worker and love her work in helping others. She also loved her family. Excited to be a grandmother. I hated to see her move but was so glad she could be with her family. I will miss her but will always not forget her. May God bless and comfort you all during this time of sorrow.Betty and Tim Huskey
We are so saddened to hear of Kathy’s passing. She was one of my favorite “soccer moms”. We had many laughs together with our “Hornet” family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kim and the entire family. She was a special lady.

It is with deep sympathy we mourn the loss of my niece Kathy.
Such and beautiful, smart and spirited young woman.
Kathy also had an incredible sense of humor .
Kathy exhibited great courage in struggling with her treatment and
also shared what she felt was her greatest accomplishment: Jason (“Jack”),
Adam (Richard), Casey and Kimberly.
May the profound love she shared with her husband Richard and all
her wonderful children ease their loss.
Kathy will also be missed by anyone who had the good fortunate to have
known and loved her
Words can’t express how saddened we are to hear of Kathy’s passing. My cousin was an awesome, smart, funny and a bright light in everyone’s heart who knew her! Knowing her from when we were kids she always lit up a room with that bright smile. I will always miss her and remember all the great times we had together.
