Joseph Leonard Vargot
September 12, 1924 – December 18, 2014

Joseph Leonard Vargot, 90, of Owings passed away December 18, 2014 at his residence. He was born September 12, 1924 in Erie, PA to Joseph S. and Elizabeth (Wilczynski) Vargot. Joseph was raised in Erie and attended East High School, and later Edinboro State College in PA. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on June 10, 1943 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Private First Class on March 3, 1946. Joseph moved to D.C. in 1952 and was a cartographer for the United States Geological Survey for 36 years, retiring in 1988. He married Ellaine Mary Ott in November 1955, and they moved to Takoma Park in 1961. He has resided in Owings since 2007. Joseph enjoyed drawing, reading, especially history books, building model airplanes, stamp and coin collecting and his dogs.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife Ellaine, who passed away in 2011. He is survived by daughters Suzanne L. Castilla and husband Ernest of Fargo, ND, and Jeannine Siess and husband Chris of Waynesboro, PA, and a son Mathieu D. Vargot and wife Lan of Owings. Also surviving are grandchildren Daphney Vargot and Joseph Siess and a sister-in-law Marilyn Williams of Coral Springs, FL.
