Where Heritage and Life are celebrated.

Gary Steven Robinson

April 1, 1957- February 13, 2023

Gary Steven Robinson of Solomons, MD passed away at the age of 65 on February 13 after a brave 19-month fight against stage IV colon cancer. Being the child of an Air Force dad, he was from many places, but considered Columbus, MS his hometown. Gary attended Mississippi State and Virginia Tech, earning a bachelor’s then a PHD in engineering. He began his professional career as an engineer, but eventually found his true calling as a teacher in the STEM program at Spring Ridge Middle School. Gary greatly enjoyed helping kids understand math and engineering and their real-life applications, while also exposing them to his other big interests, cars and music. While being a relatively quiet man, his coworkers at SRMS said he was funny when they least expected it. They have also been quick to point out how many students and colleagues lives he touched during his 15 years of teaching. He was particularly grateful for the friendships he developed with his coworkers.

Gary was preceded in death by both his parents, Raymond A.  and Ava M. (Martin) Robinson. He was an only child, and is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Robinson, stepdaughter, Victoria Patterson, his Uncle Leo Robinson and Aunt Doris Meyers, many Robinson cousins, as well as his local family of in-laws: John and Kathy Baker, John and Jennifer Baker, Brian and Cortney Costello, Ron and Ingrid Costello, his nephew Damon, and his nieces Jazmine, Mackenzie, Emmerson, Franki, Braeden, and Alex, along with his great niece, Lizzy.

There will be a celebration of life for Gary at 11:30am on March 4th in the banquet room of the Lighthouse Restaurant in Solomons, MD. Space is limited so we ask that you email nfrobinson618@gmail.com if you plan to attend.  It was Gary’s hope that we keep the event very simple and upbeat. We are looking for a few people to share fond, happy, silly or otherwise nice stories of Gary. Please wear bright colors with no or limited black.

If you would like to make a charitable donation in Gary’s memory, please consider supporting the STEM program at Spring Ridge Middle School. Address checks to SRMS and mail to Spring Ridge Middle School, STEM Program c/o Principal Charles Dunbar, 19856 Three Notch Rd., Lexington, MD 20653.

There wasn’t anything Gary wouldn’t do for our Harrier community. We spent many hours decorating for dances together, and he was always willing to help with any crazy ideas I had that required power tools. His generosity, wit, and friendship will never be forgotten.
