Frances Benton Jackson

March 5, 1942- February 3, 2023

Frances Benton “Fran” Jackson, 80, of Owings passed away February 3, 2023. She was born March 5, 1942, in Savannah, GA, to John and Lula (Mixon) Benton. Fran grew up in Charleston, SC, and married Hugh Stanley Jackson, Jr., on May 8, 1960. They moved to Calvert County shortly after getting married. Fran worked in the accounting department with Prince George’s County Government for many years. Fran was a longtime member of Mt. Harmony-Lower Marlboro United Methodist Church where she often volunteered with the church yard sale and other church functions. Fran loved spending time with her family, and she and Hugh were inseparable. Together they enjoyed camping, crabbing, fishing, traveling to South Carolina to see family, and country dancing. Fran also loved arts and crafts and their beloved Shih Tzu, Huey.

Fran was preceded in death by her husband Hugh in March of 2022 and her sister Betty Denham in 2009. She is survived by her sons Hugh Jackson III of Huntingtown and John Jackson and his partner Julie Linkins of Lower Marlboro; grandchildren Holly Ensey and her husband Sean, Jenny Freed and her husband Billy, and Hugh Jackson IV; great-granddaughter Ivy Ensey; sister Ruby Thacher; and sister-in-law Carolyn Jackson.

Rocky, Julie, and Family. So sorry to hear of this loss. It was a great pleasure to meet Fran back in March. Even at such a difficult time, her face lit up when she spoke about Hugh. I am sure they are both equally delighted to be reunited. Peace be with all of you.

Fran was a long time member of our “Odenton craft/friendship group”. She had a great sense of humor, was so talented and so kind…she quickly became a wonderful friend. Fran often talked of her family and it was very clear how much she loved all of them…including her little shih tzu, Hughey. Because I also had a shih tzu, we shared many, many stories together that I will always cherish. She will be missed so much…Rest in peace our sweet Fran….Pat Wellford

I am Hugh’s first cousin (Joan Fowler) and of the same age. We were close as kids. He was so compassionate. I held on to Hugh when my father took us to the scary caves in Virginia. Fran was a perfect match. Our entire family loved Fran. Rocky and Hugh, you were blessed with great parents who are just where they want to be….with each other.
