Ernest Gene Montgomery, 83, of Owings passed away February 18, 2019. He was born November 10, 1935 in Goshen, VA to Ernest Monroe and Ethel May (Ford) Montgomery. Ernest was raised in Virginia and later moved to Montgomery County. He was employed as a union carpenter with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He married Joyce Jameson in April 1965 and they lived in Adelphi before moving to Owings in 1995. Ernest served in the Navy from 1953 to 1956 aboard the USS Alt Destroyer, sailing all around the world and earning the Korean Service Medal. He loved working outside, gardening, fishing and crabbing.

He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce I. Montgomery. Ernest is survived by daughters Sheila Montgomery (James Abbott) of Port Republic, Susan Montgomery Heckman and husband Joel of Chambersburg, PA, Lynda Bratton Williams and husband John of Hagerstown and Tina Kamis and husband William of Leesburg, VA. Also surviving are grandchildren Jocelyn and Ethan Abbott, Richard and Brian Bratton, Marlee and Christina Kamis and William Carter.
