Where Heritage and Life are celebrated.

Dorothy Ann Delaney Vasta

August 22, 1934- January 3, 2021

With much sadness I announce the unexpected passing of my loving wife, Dorothy Ann Delaney Vasta on Sunday, January 3, 2021.  Born on August 22, 1934, she grew up in Silver Spring, MD attending Holy Names Academy and University of Maryland.  We were married in 1956 and have spent the last 64 years together.  She was a devoted mother to her four children – Karen Flood (Paul), Vicki Healy (Tom), Charlotte Duchesne (Bill) and Rob Vasta (Laura) and a cherished grandmother of eleven grandchildren – Kevin Healy, Carlee Duchesne, Claire Healy, Nicko Duchesne, Lauren Flood, Brenna Healy, Rob Vasta, Amanda Flood, Rachel Vasta, Daniel Flood, and Bridget Vasta.

She worked first as a teacher and then later at the National Wildlife Federation for 15 years. The last 30 years, we’ve been living our dream down on the Chesapeake Bay.

She was known to many as “Dotty Vee”, known proudly to her family as “Gigi”.  She loved her gardens, books, kitties, ice cream, singing with the Patuxent Pearls and enjoying nature right out her back door at Vasta View.

In lieu of flowers, a charitable contribution can be made in her honor to Bestfriends.org or the charity of your choice.

We will have a celebration of her life in the spring when her gardens are in bloom.

Bruno and family. Dorothy was the sweetest lady to all she met. We always enjoyed talking to her at the fishing meetings, and holiday parties. We know she loved her family very much and her smile would light up a room. May Dorothy rest in peace and condolences to you all. ⚘

Oh Bruno, such sad news. You two were such a special couple. Both of your smiles were always bright and shining. It was obvious how much you loved each other. May the Lord give you the strength to weather the loss of the love of your life. We know your children and grands will help you. May she rest in peace. Bernie and I will keep you all in our prayers.

Bruno, I am so sorry to hear about Dottie, but what a wonderful love story you shared, and what a great family she leaves.
I have nothing but fond memories of you both and the dinners Dottie provided before Monday night football games at RFK.

You were so blessed to have her. Dotty exuded warmth and love and good humor. Just look at her children and grandchildren to see the wonderful legacy she left the world. I loved her so much most of all because of how openlyshe loved you all and your friends…She made every one of us feel we were special too. She spread light wherevers she was and I was beneficiary of her great example and advice (and her mom’s advice too) through Vicki … RIP Dotty Vee, you are so missed here on earth, but I know “Granny” is hugging you tight.

    Dear Vasta Family,
I am saddened to learn of Dotty’s passing via today’s Washington Post. I had the privilege of working with Dotty at the National Wildlife Federation in Membership Services, my first real job after college beginning in 1979. Dotty taught me how to answer letters and be a good office worker, but mostly, she taught me with incredible patience and care. Everyone loved her! Bruno, I don’t believe we ever met, but I feel like I know you from all of Dotty’s loving stories about you and the family. I still have a Christmas tree decoration she made, a tiny little bear in a needlepoint box; also a small square enamel box with cats on the lid. That was a birthday gift. She knew how I love cats.

My older brother Tom worked at Cardinal Hill as swim coach and pool manager when your family were members. He sends his condolences as well.

I will always be grateful for Dotty mentoring me graciously into the working world, and I will never forget her uncommon kindness.

Oh, my, I did love to be across the chorale group from Dottie. Her amazing smile and enthusiasm just melted by heart and helped me to sing better. I’m no longer living there but will remember her when we again sing here in North Carolina. I’m sure she is singing with the angels.
