Dora June Downs

Dora June Downs, 93, of Friendship passed away October 28, 2022 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. She was born October 6, 1929 in Livingston, TX to Walter Lee and Viva Myrtle (Walters) Young. Dora was raised in Mesa, AZ. She married Howard Downs on January 8, 1954, and they lived in the DC area until moving to Friendship in 1985. She was an active member at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Bayside Ward in Sunderland where she served as church librarian and prepared the Sunday service program for many years. Dora was an excellent seamstress and artist. She enjoyed sewing, painting, ceramics, and crafts. Dora also loved helping others and was always watching and taking care of her own as well as friends and neighbor’s children.
Dora was preceded in death by her husband Howard Downs and sisters Onita Farnsworth, Viva Lee Bond, and Phyllis Lowe. She is survived by children Linda Bracey (Ray) of Huntingtown, Cheryl Hall (Nelson) of Friendship, Robin Jones (Bill) of Chesapeake Beach, Denise Pappu (Shyam) of Upper Marlboro, Melody Downs, of Hyattsville, Cheryl Lee Meyer of Glen Burnie, and Russell Downs of Glen Burnie. She is also survived by grandchildren Dale Bracey, Christina Moore, Crystal Seay, and Jennifer Hall and great-grandchildren Shawn, Makayla, and Abigail Seay and Amelia Moore.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Downs family on her passing. We are in frequent contact with both Russell and Cheryl here in Glen Burnie. Our thanks to Mrs. Downs for these two wonderful people. Ted has known Russell and Cheryl for over 40 years and both have been wonderful friends.

I will miss you Aunt Dora. Miles kept us apart for most of our life together but I always knew you loved me. You were the last of the Young sisters. My heart is sad you are gone but I know you are all together now. I love you.
