Barbara Whitney Conklin

October 20, 1956- January 21, 2021

Barbara Whitney Conklin, 64, of Chesapeake Beach passed away January 21, 2021. She was born October 20, 1956 in Fort Belvoir, VA to Cecil Owen and Marguerite Rose (Delano) Whitney. Barbara was born into a military family and lived in Japan for 3½ years as a child before moving to Mt. Rainier. She married George Francis Conklin on May 31, 1986 and lived in Colmer Manor before moving to Riva. In the mid 1990’s Barbara and George purchased the Breeze-In Country Store in Chesapeake Beach and later the home across the street. After operating the store for many years, they eventually retired. Following retirement, Barbara began a small seamstress company out of her house and also worked part time with George at the North Beach Boardwalk. Barbara was a very religious person who enjoyed reading her Bible, listening to Christian music, singing Karaoke, puzzles, art, drawing, painting, and sewing. She was extremely positive and had a great attitude towards life. She was kind, giving, and never had a negative thing to say about anyone.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband George Francis Conklin, parents Cecil and Marguerite Whitney, son Robert Linnenkamp, brother Douglas Whitney, and half-brother Raymond Whitney, Sr. She is survived by her sister Marilyn Williams and her husband Dale of Upper Marlboro, granddaughter Chelsea Linnenkamp of Pasadena, stepdaughter Candace Sigai and her husband Dennis of Salisbury, stepson Robert Conklin of Millsboro, DE, nephews R. Shane Ciccarelli and wife Amy of Minot, ND, Christopher Leeland and wife Christine of Pasadena, and Alexander Whitney and wife Danielle of Westminster, niece Stephanie Bearns and husband Joey of Prince Frederick and Rachel Whitney, great niece Shannon Ciccarelli, great nephew Shane Ciccarelli, and sister in law Ruth Whitney of Alabama, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

I was a customer at the Market . Ms Barbara was a gentle kind person . She always had a grin or smile . I’d see her around the county in other stores after they sold the Market and I always stopped to say hi to her
… She would recognize me and as she did at the market, always said ” Hi how are you doing” with that rememberable smile… I am glad to have known such a nice sweet person . Rest in peace .

Thank you for your kind words. It’s been a long hard year without her. I was looking at these memories and realized i may not have acknowledged your condolences at the time.

Loved seeing Barbara at the Little Store, that’s what we called it. Always with a very pretty smile. We lived at Breezy Point way back when.
