Barbara Muiriel Sparks
June 25, 1947 – October 3, 2022

Barbara Muiriel Sparks, 75, of Owings passed away October 3, 2022. She was born June 25, 1947, in Washington, D.C. to George and A. Muiriel (Power) Bell. Barbara was raised in Prince George’s County and graduated from Central High School in 1965. She married David B. Sparks on September 18, 1965, and they made their home in P.G. County, before moving to Owings in 1976. She was employed at Mt. Harmony Elementary School as a library assistant from 1988 until she retired in 2011. Barbara enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, she enjoyed family history and took a genealogy trip with her sister to Georgia. She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble. She enjoyed having family gatherings and was an excellent cook. She was very involved with her children and grandchildren and the things they were doing.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, David, her parents, and a brother Donald Bell. She is survived by sons Michael Joseph Sparks (Carol) of Brandywine, Donald Alan Sparks (Jennifer) of Kents Store, VA, and Steven Eric Sparks (Carrie) of Owings. Also surviving are grandchildren Cody Sparks (Lindsay) of Lynchburg, VA, Tyler Sparks of Kents Store, VA and Travis Sparks of Brandywine, sisters Brenda Purdy (Scott) of Black Mountain, NC, and Beverly Nuzzi of La Plata, nieces, nephews, and a close friend Sandy Conlon of Florida.

I am so saddened to hear of my Aunt Barbara passing so suddenly. I have fond memories of my childhood holidays spent at her house with all my cousins. I’m also glad her and my Mom reconnected in recent years. Much love to my cousins Mike, Donald and Steve.
