Barbara Ann Brady

March 20, 1939 – January 30, 2024

Barbara Ann Brady, 84, of Owings, Maryland, passed away on January 30, 2024 at University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center. She was born on the first day of spring, March 20, 1939 in West Virginia to Peter Ferri and Katherine Kinsler. Barbara was a proud coal miner’s daughter who grew up in West Virginia and graduated from Mount Hope High School class of 1957, where she was a member of the Majorette’s team, and was voted “Best Dancer”, and “Cutest Couple” with her first love. She moved to Maryland in the early 1960’s, where she not only lovingly raised her own children, but became known as a mother to their entire community and made her home a haven for anyone they called friend. Barbara was known for her kindness, selflessness, and tireless work ethic. In her free time, she enjoyed shopping, especially at antique shops, yard sales, and flea markets, getting her hair and nails done, and watching hallmark movies. She especially loved making magic happen at Christmas time for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—her greatest joys in life.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Michael “Mike” Brady of Owings; Children George Parrish, Kellie A. Newton (Michael), all of Owings, and Samuel “Sam” Chaney of Gambrills; grandchildren Nicole Owens (Levi), Katie Hagelin (Tyler), Dillon Estep, Shelby Riches (Simon), Daniel Parrish, Nicholas Newton, and Nathan Newton; great-grandchildren Aubrie Owens, Jamie Hagelin, Eli Hagelin, Zoe Hagelin, and Camden Riches; sisters Kitty Nugent, and Joy Wrubel. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather Ernie Grilly; and sister Bettie Blasczak.

Following the memorial service, a reception will be held at the American Legion Stallings-Williams post 206 in Chesapeake Beach, MD.

    Kellie and Mike,

Johnny and I are so deeply sorry for the loss of your mother (in law). There are no words that can ease the pain or give you peace, just know that you and your family are being prayed for. Our hearts go out to you both. Please know that she made this world a brighter place and will be deeply missed. Air hugs to all of you. We are here as always if anything is needed. Love,

I was privileged to have a front row seat to Barbara Ann’s fun high school years! Although i was 8 years younger I was there daily & saw first hand her blessed life. She, along with sister Bettye Jane & cousin Loretta were part of the “Waltons“ who lived at Nunu & Popeyes house in Glen Jean! Her Dad uncle Pete , & Uncle Shoemake were there as well – looking back we wonder where they all slept but they made it work!! it was a blessed time – all 3 girls were showered with love & attention & the sense of belonging & being part of a caring family was the norm! reading her beautiful tribute it’s obvious that what she experienced then was carried over into her tender care of you all in her life! My Mom (Aunt Mary), Aunt Fanny & Uncle Fred were also close by & made sure she had everything she needed but the greatest gift they all gave her was love & deep feelings for family ! one of my most powerful memories is when she got married & was leaving her haven for the first time! when i say she was sobbing , it was an understatement husband Bucky was literally holding her up & my 8 year old mind – i knew she was saying goodbye to a home where she was valued & a village who supported & loved her . It is apparent- all the daily affirmations that lifted her up was her beacon for her blessed kids , Grandkids & Great Grands ! Betty Jane & aLoretta were the same wonderful models for their kiddos too ! The Italian Glen Jean lessons not only took root but bloomed with you all ! what a gift!! my sincere condolences to all her family & friends who benefited from her nurturing! Her family values obviously run deep & as hard as it is to let her go , celebrate that she was there for all of you ‘ the positive example that she lived! i know she was welcomed in heaven by her support team in her formative years who also loved her unconditionally ! Again So so sorry for your loss but wanted you to know that your many WV Ferri cousins are Sending prayers for your strength & care ( know she’d expect y’all to be strong like she was) Love & caring thoughts – first cousin Brenda Kay “Kennedy” Vargo

My deepest condolences go out to the family of the beloved Barbara, I worked with her for about 12 years and through those years we shared so many thoughts and feelings about family, friends, plans to have fun etc. She was a wonderful loving person that had good insight, advise and teaching abilities that helped guide me through tough times. I am blessed to have met her and have her in my life through the good times and the bad.
