Albert Preston Bembe, 72, passed away on December 30, 2020 following a brief illness. A long-time resident of Galesville, he is survived by his wife Robin M. Bembe whom he married on April 28, 1984.

Al was born in Annapolis, Maryland and grew up on Bembe Beach Road, where he frequently helped his father with his captain’s piloting business. He graduated from Annapolis High School in 1966.  Following his return from service in the U.S. Army, Al joined the Anne Arundel County Fire Department and retired after a 27-year career in January 1997.  He was also a long-time member of the Galesville Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as the company treasurer for many years.  Al was a lifelong muscle car enthusiast and enjoyed history and movies.

In addition to his wife, Al is survived by his siblings, Stephen Bembe (Sherry) of Annapolis and Wendy Bembe of Brooklyn; his children, Preston Bembe (Natalie) of Pasadena; Richard Bembe (Sarah) of Westminster; Michael Bembe (Erin) of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; and his grandchildren Jackson and Brooke Bembe.  He is also survived by his three sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and several nieces and nephews, with whom he was especially close. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary Bembe and by his mother-in-law, Betty D. Moreland.

There will be no service at this time.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, P.O. Drawer 498, Emmitsburg, MD 21727 or the link below.

Albert always shared a broad smile, a fun chat about cars and a helping hand. On several occasions he gladly help me carry my packages out of the Galesville Post Office to my car; we would always chat about his perfectly polished truck. Robin and family, may your shared memories of Albert and the life you shared together be a blessing. May his good and gentle soul forever be your shining light. Albert, Rest In Peace.

To Robin and family I was deeply saddened to learn of Albert’s death. I have many fond memories of working with Al in the 3rd Battalion, “C” Shift. Al taught me to drive the old Tanker 1 and help me when I was taking the Pump Operator Test. He was a great pump operator and friend. May he rest in peace.
