William A. “Bill” Norris
June 5, 1942 – December 9, 2020
William (Bill) Alexander Norris passed away on December 9, 2020 at the age of 78, in his hometown of St. Mary’s County, Maryland from complications of COVID-19. Born on June 5, 1942, he was the son of the late James and Gertrude Norris who raised him and his 7 siblings on a 100-acre tobacco farm in Hollywood, MD.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Bill served on the Prince George’s County Police Department until he retired as a lieutenant in 1992. His hobbies were hunting, crabbing, sporting clay shooting and napping! He was a humble, gentle, and honorable man that listened more than he spoke. William Shakespeare wrote “Men of few words are the best men,” and that was true in his case.
Bill is survived by his wife Jeanne Ferguson Norris whom he married in 1995; siblings Ann Sweeney, Ray Norris, David Norris, Michael Norris, Ronald Norris, and Teddy Norris; his children Hollie Brogunier and husband Carl, and Chris Norris; stepchildren Donny Ferguson, Jan Peregoy, and Shelley Ferguson; grandchildren Nathan Brogunier, Allyson Brogunier, Lyndsey Stephens, and Derek Ferguson; great-grandchild Jolene Stephens. Bill was preceded in death by a brother Patrick Norris.
Bill will be remembered for his love of the water, dad jokes, the silly little jigs he would only do for his kids and grandkids, and the feeling that you were always safe and protected in his presence.
No immediate services will be held due to COVID-19. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.

Uncle Bill I remember the days when we hung tobacco in the barn together. In the middle of swampy August humidity, I never heard you complain. I remember how you looked at grandad with love and respect. You didn’t have to say it, you showed it. Maybe towards the end of life there were things you wanted to say or wished you had said, but you did the most important thing, you gave your love as best you knew how and let your actions speak. It’s been a blessing to have you as my Uncle.
Bill was a kind and loving man. He showed his love through his actions and always greeted his friends and family with a “glad to see you smile”. He left a legacy of love and will be remembered for all he did for others. He will be missed…..
Will always be my Uncle Bill.
I used to come down to that farm as a kid with him and Aunt Nancy. Had a lot of fun when I was there. Uncle Bill let me help paint his wooden boat, but not you could see. I remember taking my kite to the farm to fly. Was with him one day there helping cut a tree down. Me being a kid wondering around, I wondered in the path of the falling tree. Lucky it was the very top and only small limbs hit me. Uncle Bill thought I was dead! Will always remember Uncle Bill!
I came to know Bill during the early 1970s when we worked together in the bureau of patrol of the PGPD. There are lots of accolades I could write about Bill, but none higher then the level of professionalism he displayed as a police officer. Although I haven’t seen him since my retirement, I was quite taken by the news of his death.

Ed & Dottie Bellafiore/. I first met Bill in July 1968 when I joined the PG County PD.–he was my FTO, field training officer. Later we became close friends and he was best man at my wedding. Bill was the most honest person I have ever known. Never ask him a question if you couldn’t handle his answer. I remember harvesting tobacco with his siblings and although I tried hard keeping up–I was a novice. I asked Bill how I did, after ten hours in the sun , Bill responded: “Some day you might get the hang of it”. I will always cherish our times together hunting and fishing. Our deepest sympathy to Jeannie & family.
Hi Ed and Dottie…I wanted to let you know about my dad’s celebration of life (see Facebook link below with all the info). Also, would you please give me a call? 954-298-0099.
