William Thomas Ricketts, Sr.
April 25, 1929 – January 5, 2021
William Thomas Ricketts, Sr., 91, of Lothian passed away January 5, 2021 at his residence. He was born April 25, 1929 at home in Barnesville, MD to James Walter Sr. and Hattie (Case) Ricketts. William was raised on the family farm in Barnesville and moved to Washington, DC in 1947 to live with his sister and try to find work. He met Margaret Pumphrey while in DC and they were married on June 11, 1949 at Epiphany Episcopal Church in Forestville. William learned the construction trade and eventually started his own business, W.T. Ricketts General Contracting, building over 60 homes during his 40-year career in Prince George’s, Anne Arundel, and Calvert County, as well as DC and Alexandria, VA. He built a stellar reputation as a talented, honest, hardworking man. William retired in 1989 and became a full-time cattle farmer. He was a member of Epiphany Episcopal Church and in his spare time he enjoyed vegetable gardening, working, and rebuilding tractors. He also enjoyed many daily visitors seeking advice. He was gifted with speaking the truth and had a quick-witted sense of humor.
William was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Louise Ricketts and daughter Margaret Rose Mencer. He is survived by his children Joan Ricketts Locke of Warrenton, VA, Terry Ricketts Redell and husband Louie of King George, VA, Billy Ricketts of Florida, and Buddy Ricketts and wife Liz of Lothian, 9 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

I am thinking about your family and praying your father is at peace. He was so kind to me when I used to hang around your house as a child. I remember him joking and teasing me in a kind way. I thought the world of him 😇💖
My condolences to the family. I never met Mr Ricketts, but I sure loved hearing Joan telling stories about visits with Dad. He loved and was loved.
