William Henry Griffith, 82, of Friendship, Maryland, passed away on November 29, 2024 at his home. Born on January 16, 1942 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Louise Weems (Sansbury) and William Louis Griffith, Jr. William spent the first several years of his life living in D.C., and in 1951 his family relocated to Bethesda, MD, where he and his brothers attended Walter Johnson High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy’s “Kiddie Cruise” program at the age of seventeen, and after three years of service he returned to his family’s farm in Friendship, Maryland. He kept busy applying himself to various odd jobs before going on to work as a purchasing officer for Marriott, meticulously managing inventory and procurement for their hotels across Maryland and Pennsylvania. He was also a skilled woodworker and enjoyed crafting furniture and drafting architectural sketches. In his free time, he could often be found reading or indulging in some online shopping.

William is survived by his brothers, James “Beaty” Griffith (Clare), and Richard Louis Griffith; nephews Christopher Beaty Griffith, and Jacob Louis Griffith (Julie); niece Melissa Griffith; great-nieces and great-nephews Kaitlyn, Lindsey, Alec, Gabrielle, Brennen, and Caleb, and cousin Laurie Schmeiser (Harold). He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Louise Griffith, and his niece Jessica Griffith.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday December 5, 10:30 A.M., at Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery, 22 Friendship Road, Friendship, MD 20758.
