William Ernest McKenny
August 12, 1932 – January 16, 2022

William Ernest McKenny, 89, of Greenville, NC passed away peacefully on January 16, 2022 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Kinston, NC. He was born August 12, 1932 to the late Joseph Arthur and Maude Iola Williams McKenny in Calvert County where he lived most of his life. Ernest served in the Army and was a retired mail carrier for the United States Post Office. His family lived in the old McKenny house on Skinners Turn Road which was built by his father in 1930. He also used to mow the grass in the cemetery at Mt Harmony Church.
In addition to his parents, Ernest waspreceded in death by his first wife of 38 years and mother of his children, Dorothy Lucille Burke, his second wife Jeanette Marie Fincham, and a sister Bertha Viola Leitch Sharper. He is survived by three daughters; Elaine (Bob) Kennedy of Taylorsville, NC, Debbie Kennedy of Greenville, NC, and Sandy Dobbs of Winterville, NC; grandchildren, Bill (Kimberly) Kennedy, Kimmie (Jason) Gray, Ken (Amanda) Dobbs, John (Nicole) Dobbs, Sherlene (Todd) Sommers, Shellie (David) Taylor, David Dobbs, and Rachel (Troy) Trinosky; and great-grandchildren Taylor Kennedy, Alexander Kennedy, Drew Kennedy, Haven Gray, Jon Trinosky, Nathaniel Taylor, Aiden Dobbs, Liam Dobbs and two more on the way.
A viewing will take place at Rausch Funeral Home in Owings, MD on Sunday, January 23, 2022 from 4:00-6:00pm and a graveside service will be across the road at Mt Harmony Church on Monday, January 24 at 10:00am. Rausch Funeral Home is serving the family of Ernest McKenny. The family would also like to extend a sincere thank you to the North Carolina State Veterans Home for their loving dedication and care to Ernest.
