I met Tilden in the early 70s when he got out of the Marine Corps. He worked for Fritz Grupp and then he worked at our marina for a few months before he joined the sheriff’s office. He was a loyal, wonderful friend. Then, when he married Diann we got to know Mike who hung around with our son while they were at Calvert High. What a good leader, role model, person and friend. I was so shocked when he told us his diagnosis over 10 years ago. He never quit being a positive person. We will miss him so much.

I knew Tilden way back when he was in high school. He went to school with my neighbor’s brother, Jimmy Holland. He was a lot of fun and we always had a great time laughing and carrying on during those years. I got to know him better when he joined the sheriff’s department. He always had time to talk whenever I saw him. I also remember Diane when she worked for the State and we became acquainted. It has been a while since I have seen them but I will always remember them. May the memories you have sustain you through this difficult time. I know he will be missed by all who knew him but especially his family, friends and neighbors from Solomons . Our sincerest sympathy to all of you .

June 7 – Obituary: Tilden Hardesty Garner
I didn’t know Tilden for very long, but I met him in a time of need a couple of months ago. My cat had gone missing from near-by neighborhood and had been traced by scent tracking dogs to his property. He was so incredibly gracious in allowing me access to his property to try to trap my missing cat. He also called me multiple times throughout this time to simply check in and express his concern and empathy for the situation; as well as his expertise when it came to solving things. I know that he liked molasses cookies and loved his wife as well as his cat named Tilly. Sending his family love and good energy during this tough time. I only knew him briefly and he left a positive impact on me- I can’t imagine knowing him for a lifetime. Lots of love.

I worked with Tilden at Courthouse for years. First as a deputy sheriff and as a security personnel in my last years of employment. What a gentleman he was! Dependable, well trained, and everything an officer of the law should be. I so enjoyed running into him in Solomons and talking about old times and old friends. He was a pillar of this Solomon’s community. He will be missed by so many. Mary Gott

Tilden was a wonderful neighbor. He welcomed me, my wife and family to Southern Maryland in 1997 and made sure we felt “at home” in our new surroundings. He always greeted us with a smile and hello no matter how busy he was with chores. His legacy will live on at Swaggers Point Road and beyond with those who knew and cared about him.

Tilden loved his family and friends. He was a great role model for all that encountered him. He loved camping, boating, and sailing. He taught many the ropes in these adventures with patience and knowledge. He was always looking for the next adventure with his family. He was always willing to lend a hand or take the time to teach others. He will be missed at family gatherings.
Deepest and heartfelt sympathy to Diann and her family.
