Stephen Wesley Augustine
June 21, 1952- April 14, 2014
Stephen Wesley “Augie” Augustine, 61 of Deale, Maryland passed away on April 14, 2014 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on June 21, 1952 in La Plata, Maryland to the late Addis V. Augustine and the late Gerard J. Augustine.
Steve graduated from Southern High School in Harwood, Maryland. He entered, served and was honorably discharged from the District of Columbia Air National Guard. Following his military service he worked for the Public Works Department for Prince George’s County, Maryland before transferring to the Prince George’s County Fire Department where he faithfully served until his retirement with the rank of Battalion Chief. During his fire service career he was assigned to Station 1 and 34 in the 4th Battalion and was the 5th Battalion Commander when he retired on April 1, 1995.
Following his fire service career he continued to serve the citizens of Maryland and his fire service brethren as an instructor with the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute at the University of Maryland.
Steve was an avid musician performing with the band “YdoUask” and played guitar, bass guitar, mandolin and banjo. He loved riding motorcycles and he was a licensed pilot. He was also a lover of history, especially historical accounts of the Civil War and World War II.
Steve is survived by his brother Ed Augustine and wife Kathy of St. Leonard, Maryland, nephew Sam Augustine of Portland, Oregon, niece Sarah Augustine, United States Coast Guard stationed in Portland, Oregon, his brother Tim Augustine and wife Cathy of DeLand, Florida and niece Amy Augustine of Cocoa, Florida.
