Shirley King Wood

Shirley King Wood, 88, of Friendship passed away July 22, 2021. She was born August 31, 1932 in Arbutus to Alvin Hamilton and Mary (Leitch) King. Shirley was raised in Arbutus and graduated from Catonsville High School and later from Strayer Business College. She married John “Billy” Wood on July 28, 1951 and they lived in Friendship. She was employed with Prince George’s County Soil Conservation and the U.S. Census Bureau before going to work for Anne Arundel County Public Schools where she worked as a secretary at Lothian Elementary School for many years. Shirley was a longtime member of Friendship United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. Shirley enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles, vegetable gardening and canning, and watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and The Price is Right.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband John W. “Billy” Wood and brother William “Billy” King. She is survived by her daughter Bonnie G. Baden of North Beach, son Ronald K. “Ronnie” Wood (Denise) of Owings, grandchildren Christopher (Virginia) and Emily (Tommy) Baden, great-grandchildren Kayla and Michael, and brother Alvin Hamilton King, Jr. of Columbia, SC.

I am saddened to hear of your mother’s passing. It is a sad day when Friendship loses one of her daughters. I enjoyed visiting Shirley at her home and nursing center prior to moving south. Friendship will miss her.
