Where Heritage and Life are celebrated.

Richard Warren Nicholson, Sr.

November 13, 1932- February 8, 2023

Richard Warren Nicholson, Sr., 90, of Deale Beach passed away February 8, 2023. He was born November 13, 1932 in High Point, NC to George Heritage, Sr. and Mamie Louise (Brown) Nicholson. Richard moved to Washington, DC as a child. He joined the United States Air Force in November of 1950 and was honorably discharged in October of 1954. He married Mary Kenney on June 16, 1956, and the lived in Deale Beach. Richard worked as a brick layer for many years before becoming and general contractor and owner of Nicholson Brothers Construction Co. with his brother George. He later went to work for Giant Food, retiring in 1998. Richard was a charter member of the South County Deale Moose Lodge in Shady Side and a member of the Deale Elks Lodge. Richard loved music and playing his guitar and banjo with his friends, especially Paul Long and Jimmy Riddle. He also enjoyed being on the water, fishing, and crabbing. Most of all though, Richard loved spending time with his family. Family always came first, and he will be greatly missed.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife Mary Nicholson, sisters Alice Smith and Sharon O’Day, and brother George H. Nicholson, Jr. He is survived by his children Richard W. Nicholson, Jr. and his wife Christina of Chesapeake Beach, Beverly Terry and her husband William of Lothian, Brenda Deane of Chesapeake Beach, and Stephen Nicholson, Sr. of Chesapeake Beach, grandchildren Richard “Nick” III, Jenna, Glen, Ryan, Shannon, Candice, Christa, Casey, and Stephen Jr., 17 great-grandchildren and one on the way, and his sister Betty Anderson.

Following the service the Nicholson family invites family and friends to the Stallings Williams American Legion Post 206 in Chesapeake Beach for a reception.

I loved Uncle Dick. He was always so kind and quick with a smile. I am so thankful that he and my mom got to see each other in person a couple of years ago while Dick could still travel… it meant so much to my mom and to all of us too. I am wrapping all of you who loved and cherished him in prayers and love 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻 Cindy Andersen Roll
