Rebecca Ann “Becky” Wellcome, 74, of Huntingtown, MD passed away March 4, 2021. She was born September 6, 1946 in Charlottesville, VA to John Mitchell and Martha Louise (Gibson) Johnson. Becky was raised in Crozet, VA, outside of Charlottesville and graduated from Albemarle High School. In her early years she worked for the University of Virginia and later the University of Maryland while also working towards her degree. Becky graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree.
Becky met Robert “Bob” Wellcome in the spring of 1986 and they were married on December 10, 1988. They both knew they had found their lifetime soulmate. They lived in Arlington, VA until moving to Huntingtown, MD in 1996. Becky worked as a licensing manager for GEICO, retiring after 24 years. Following her retirement, she went to work as Vice President for the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers where she worked for a number of years, before retiring again in 2012.
Becky and Bob loved going on cruises with their many friends. They traveled all over the Caribbean, South America, to the Mediterranean, Europe, Hawaii, Alaska and they even took trips to the North and South Poles. Becky loved cooking, she was known as the “Recipe Queen” and enjoyed collecting cookbooks and wine. She loved camping, antiques, and planting in her vegetable garden, especially hot peppers. God looked around his garden and found an empty place . He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face.He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful He always takes the best.He knew that you were suffering. He knew you were in pain.He knew that you would never get well on earth again .He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. So he closed your weary eyelids and whispered,’Peace Bethine’.It broke my heart to lose you but you didn’t go alone. For part of me went with you.The day God called you home. Rest In Peace in God’s garden. Joyce
Becky is my sister in law. She was an exceptional person in every sense of the word. Her husband , my oldest brother loved her more than life. She definitely fought the good fight, and she is an angel now, looking down at all who loved her. RIP dear Becky..We will see you again.
The greatest times we have ever had always had Becky involved… and this prayer is something that I read often to comfort myself with loss. I hope it can do that for anyone that loved Becky like we do!
When I die give what’s left of me away
to children and old men that wait to die.
And if you need to cry,
cry for your brother walking beside you
And when you need me, put your arms around anyone
and give to them what you need to give to me.
I want to leave you something,
something better than words or sounds.
Look for me in the people I’ve known or loved,
and if you cannot give me away,
At least let me live in your eyes and not in your mind.
You can love me best my letting hands touch hands
and by letting go of children that need to be free.
Love doesn’t die – people do.
So, when all that is left of me is love, give me away.
Our thoughts go out to my brother Bob and all of Becky’s family. Becky and Bob were truly kindred spirits and full of life and fun. I had the honor of playing at their wedding and it is still etched in my memory- taking the train from NY with our dad and meeting so many wonderful folks. We send our love to all who loved Becky and share their sadness.
Love,
Charlie, Kathleen, Nicholas and Danielle
Dear Bob,
Fred and I are so sorry to hear of Becky’s passing. We had some great times together. We will always remember her beautiful smile. I pray that as each day goes by you will see a little more sunshine breaking through your cloud of sadness.
Love, Zena Thomas
I am just noticing the passing of a long-time loving friend “Becky”. Oh how saddened and hurt I am. What a loss! What a hurt!!!!! Becky and I were friends, housemates, and carpooled together back and forth to Geico for many, many years. Words just can never express the love and friendship I lost. Becky and Bob were truly such good friends, and we have shared so much fun. We have enjoyed many Ocean City trips, and so much more. I will forever miss her. Becky was such a good friend, and just a wonderful cook, and she loved to cook. Someone so special can never be forgotten. Although it’s difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow. My sincere prayers, and thoughts to my brother Bob and all of Becky’s family. May God bless and give you all peace during such a sad time. Dr. Joyce Travis, SC

I did not know you both as long as some but I could tell she was a classy lady with style. Who had a great man that worshiped her. So sorry for your loss she will be remembered and missed by so many.
I knew Becky at GEICO, and attended her wedding to Bob. She was so much fun. She loved to cook, and was very proud of her pesto recipe then.
God bless you all.
