Peggy Marie (Sheckells) Thompson
January 16, 1943- March 5, 2021

Peggy Marie Sheckells Thompson 78, of Dowell, MD, passed away peacefully at her home on March 5th, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born on January 16, 1943 in Calvert County to the late Elliott and Virginia Sheckells, and was the loving wife of Jack Kent Thompson (d.2013).
Peggy grew up in Huntingtown, MD and graduated from Calvert High School in 1961. She began her career as secretary for the Department of the Navy. She met Jack Thompson at Andrews Air Force Base, whom she married on August 9, 1974. Soon after marriage they relocated to Hawaii, where Jack was assigned to Naval Air Station (NAS) Barbers Point. They returned to Maryland in 1976, where they lived on base at Patuxent Naval Air Station and in Hollywood, MD and raised their four children. She worked as a Technical Administrator for US Navy E-2C Program and retired in 2004.
During retirement, Peggy and Jack had many adventures in their RV, including several summers in Alaska and winters in Key West, Florida with family and friends. In the past few years, Peggy enjoyed spending part of the winters traveling to Madeira Beach, FL where she enjoyed the sunshine with family and new friends. She loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, music concerts and large family holiday gatherings. For two years she was affectionately known as “Miss Peggy” working at her niece’s daycare center and getting so much joy from being around the children.
Family, faith and friendships were the focus of her life. She made everyone feel at home with her joyful spirit and contagious smile. She was always ready for an adventure or a chat with her friends and neighbors.
She was so proud of her 4 children and their families, which includes 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She cherished her relationship with her sisters Shirley Wentz (d.2009), Faye Shields (Prince Frederick, MD) and Terry Lynn Shannon (Huntingtown, MD), their spouses and children, and her many great nieces and nephews.
She had strong faith in the Lord and was a long time member of the Leonardtown Baptist Church, where she enjoyed the friendship and fellowship of her Bible Babes, her many pew buddies and her LBC family.
She is survived by her children: Thomas Wayne Green (Ginny); Compton, MD; Mark Elliott Green (Jennifer); Madeira Beach, FL; Amy Marie Lenahan (Sean); Bristow, VA; Jeffrey Kent Thompson (Melissa); Leonardtown, MD. Loved Peggy with all my heart! She, Anita, and I were “ Pew Buddies “. We had lots of talks and lunches, and became such great friends! I will miss her so much! But feel so blessed to have had her in my life. Please except my deepest sympathy and prayers at this very sad time.

I only met Peggy when moving into Windward Harbour; to know her is to love her. We developed an instant friendship as Peggy did with everyone. What a beautiful women with a dazzling smile. I’ll always remember and cherish the days we shared, our long conversations. Peggy loved Our Lord and she is now enveloped in His loving arms. Rest In Peace my dear friend and may Peggy’s large, loving family find comfort knowing how many lives she touched.
I’m a friend of Alex Green and even though I’ve never met her grandmother, whenever Alex talked about her, i knew she sounded like a wonderful lady inside and out. I pray that wherever she is whether it’s heaven or any form of heaven she believes in, she can rest easy <3
