Patrick “Sean” Murphy
March 10, 1971 – May 9, 2020
Patrick “Sean” Murphy (49), son of Patrick & Virginia Murphy of Port Republic, MD, passed away on May 9th at his home in Selbyville, DE. Sean was born on March 10, 1971 in San Francisco, CA. As a young child, Sean lived in various parts of the United States, from California to Rhode Island, Virginia, Maine and Florida as his family moved to relocate with the Navy. In 1981 he moved permanently to his beach community in Port Republic. Sean spent many happy years there crabbing, fishing in the Bay and exploring the woods with his brothers and cousins, his “best buds”.
Sean graduated from Our Lady Star of the Sea School and was a 1989 graduate of Calvert High. He also attended the College of Southern Maryland. Sean moved to the Eastern Shore in the early 90s and divided his work between restaurant management in Ocean City and work with the National Auto Shows throughout the year. Through thick and thin, he was an avid Cowboys and Orioles fan, Cal Ripken being one of his idols. Sean’s personality was magnetic, and he made many, many friends along the way. Sean was kind, warm, loving and always fun. His loyalty to a friend was unshakable.
Family meant everything to Sean. He is survived by his parents, Patrick & “Ginny” and his brothers Kevin of Washington, DC and Matthew and his wife Britt of Edgewater, MD, his nieces Dylan and Everett whom he dearly cherished, and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea School, c/o Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, P.O. Box 560, Solomons, MD 20688. Another way of honoring Sean is to love your family deeply and always go that extra step to be a true and loyal friend.
Due to the Covid-19 situation Monsignor Michael Wilson will conduct private funeral services for the immediate family on Friday, May 15. A celebration of Sean’s life will be held at a later date.

Sean was a very good friend that could make me smile & laugh on my worst of days. I’ll treasure my memories from our 30+ years of friendship. There has always been a lot of laughter, from our CHS high school days to his teaching my kids how to make pizza in OC. He will be sorely missed. I’m so sorry for your loss and will keep your family in my prayers.
Thoughts and prayers for the Murphy family during this most difficult time. We will always cherish our families time together at Our Lady Star of the Sea school and church.
Our deepest sympathy,
Shirley & Ronnie Weems, Sandy, Steve and James
I’m thankful that I was able to keep in touch with Sean through Facebook since he moved from Calvert. If our family was going to OC, we would always reach out to him, to catch-up. I knew Sean from CHS and we remained friends. He was always so much fun to be around. Many prayers for your family! He will not be forgotten!!!! God Bless!!!!

With my deepest condolences to the Murphy family. I’m so sorry for your loss. Sean was a kind-hearted person who cared for everyone. He was a gem to his communities both, Calvert HS and Ocean City alike. He will be greatly missed and always remembered for the good person that he was to us all. May God keep you in His everlasting love, strengthen you with the will to maintain faith, and bring you peace during this time of difficulty and always. Continued prayers of healing for you all.
There will never be another friend that could make problems of the world go away for just a minute and give you a reason to smile and laugh. But Sean could. Sean moved to Ocean City after we graduated and that’s something that should be said. I think he loved being there. I know for myself anytime i cross one of the two bridges that take me into Ocean City from this day forward, Sean will be on my mind. That was Sean’s town and in my mind Ocean City will forever be a place that i won’t ever be able to go to again without shedding a tear. I spent alot of time with Sean in Ocean City. The time i spent in this life with Sean wasn’t enough. I was suppose to go down to Ocean City and see him just before he passed. It’s something that hurts and i wish i could of seen him one last time. Sean was unique everyway. A person that could make you smile and laugh but never ever make you cry until now. Bye buddy you will be miss so much. Ocean city will never be the same either you left your mark on so much. Love you brother!
Our hearts go out to the entire Murphy Family as they grieve the passing of their oldest son Sean today.
His departure is entirely too premature, but he leaves behind loving parents, doting nieces and 2 brothers that would have done anything for him. I had the good fortune of becoming friends with both Sean and Kevin
(an unmatched duo to this day!) while attending grade school at OLSS. We played sports together, hung out at each others houses, and had a lot of fun growing up around the shores of Calvert County. Sean was genuine, loyal, and would stick up for you in a heart beat…and man, was he proud of his brothers! He will be sorely missed by all who knew him – God Bless you Sean!
