Nydia Ivonne Burchinal, 69, of Huntingtown, passed away November 12, 2022. She was born May 31, 1953, in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Manuel and Nydia (Santiago) Ortiz. Ivonne grew up in Puerto Rico coming to State College, PA for her high school years as her father attended Penn State University for his PhD. Returning to Puerto Rico, she completed her Associates degree in Interior Decorating and Fashion Design and worked as a window trimer for Learner Shops traveling throughout the Caribbean Islands. She later moved to Clinton, MD to be with her parents where she was introduced to her future husband, Charles Burchinal, who was a 1st Lieutenant in the Marine Corps, by her cousin CWO3 Rose Franco. After a whirlwind courtship of three months, Ivonne and Charles were married on April 16, 1977, at the base chapel at Marine Corps Base Henderson Hall in Arlington and about a year later were blessed with their daughter Elizabeth. In 1979 Charles was transferred to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA where Ivonne joined the school’s Artist Guild and took lessons in watercolor from a well know artist. It was here that she honed her talents as an artist and successfully displayed her art in local galleries. In 1981 they were transferred back to Virginia where they were again blessed with their son, Jonathan, and Ivonne continued to develop her artist skills in both watercolor and theorem painting working with a nationally known theorem painter and showing her paintings in local galleries. When Charles was discharged in 1987, they moved to Maryland where Ivonne joined the Maryland’s Artist Guild and competed for the first time in the Guilds statewide competition where she won best in show over all the competition. It was during this time that Ivonne completed her certification as a graphic designer from the prestigious Corcoran School of the Arts and Design latter becoming a graphic illustrator for a local publishing company. She also applied her artist skills to cake decorating, working with her mother’s wedding cake business where she entered the Wilton Company’s Greater Washington Cake Decorating Contest again winning best in show in her first competition with her winning cake being featured in the Wilton’s magazine. Ivonne’s passion was her art and loved sharing her skill with others teaching after school art classes for the neighborhood children. Ivonne also enjoyed hosting a weekly local prayer group often referring to the members as her church sisters and spending time with her grandchildren.
Ivonne is survived by her loving husband Charles Burchinal of Huntingtown; her children Elizabeth Burchinal and Jonathan Burchinal also of Huntingtown; grandchildren Samantha Tipton, Austin Tipton, Carter Leigh Burchinal, and Steven Burchinal; her mother Nydia Ortiz; and brother Fernando Ortiz, Manuel Ortiz, Raul Ortiz, and sister Lourdes Ortiz, all of whom live in the Metro DC area.

Ivonne, You will be greatly missed. Even though, since we moved to Florida I know we haven’t talked much but we were certainly together in spirit. I will never forget the last word you spoke to me “I love you”. The Memories are unforgettable that we made together. LOVE YOU MUCHO
Ivonne, you will be greatly missed. When we to moved to Florida we didn’t talk much but, we were always connected in Spirit. We created so many wonderful memories together. You can now dance without pain. Thank you for being a wonderful friend. Love you, Cyndi 💖💖💖
Dear Ivonne, since we met a few years ago in the prayer group we had a connection. It was fun to talk to you. You were a sweet special lady. Now you can paint, decorate cakes and everything you used like to do and dance with the angel with no more pain. ❤️
Charles and family, I’m so sorry to learn of Ivonne’s passing and praying that God will comfort you as only He can during times of sorrow such as these. I think of you often. Praying for you and your family. I can only imagine what scenes Ivonne could paint now from inside the gates of Heaven!! God bless you all, Teri

Joe and I would like to express our condolences on loss of your sister. We did not know her, but remember how much you and your family loved her so very much and prayed for her concerns. May God carry you all through this time of sorrow and give you peace and grace as you travel the journey of remembering all of the wonderful times that you shared together. God Bless.
Dear Charlie, Elizabeth. Jonathan and all your family – Harry and I would like to express our heartfelt condolences to all of you. Ivonne was well loved by us and we will miss her so very much. Ivonne was one of the kindest people we know and was always so giving. We are blessed to have known her. We are so fortunate to have some of her art gracing our walls and it will be a beautiful daily reminder of her. So many wonderful memories of her over the 42 years we have known her. Rest in peace dear Ivonne.

Dear Charles and Family:
I am very sorry for your loss. I remember having the great pleasure of meeting Ms. Nydia. Her infectious smile, keen wit, and nurturing manner warmed the entire room. And, it was very evident how much she loved her family and had a deep care and concern for others. I am sure that her kind spirit touched many, as it did me.
May the love, mercy, and promises of God give you all strength, hope, and comfort through your grief.
My deepest condolences to you all,
D. Ben Winborne
