Neal Winston Thomas

Neal Winston Thomas, 72, of Prince Frederick, Maryland passed away peacefully at Burnett Calvert Hospice House on November 17 following a brave battle with cancer. He will be laid to rest at Christ Church Calvert County in Port Republic, Maryland, next to his beloved wife Kim, who pre-deceased him.
Neal was born in Brattleboro, Vermont on December 30, 1945. A mechanical engineering graduate of Lowell Technological Institute, Neal had a long, productive civilian career in Virginia and Maryland supporting many weapons systems for the U.S. Navy. Neal and Kim moved to a beautiful wooded home in Prince Frederick in 1996, along with their two treasured cocker spaniels, Tammy and Heidi. A lover of nature, firearms and history, Neal enjoyed spending time with Kim at their camp on the Shenandoah River, as well as his family’s cabin in Maine. During his retirement Neal devoted considerable time to aquaculture at Circle C Oyster Ranch on St. Jerome Creek, St. Mary’s County, Maryland. In addition to his late wife Kim, Neal was also pre-deceased by his parents, Winston ‘Bud’ Thomas and Harriet Thomas. His sister, Susan A. Qualters, of Wakefield, MA survives him as do his stepsons, David and Brian Morgan, David’s fiancé Jennifer Mallare, Brian’s wife Claudia, and three grandchildren Russell, Connor and Annabella. May he rest in peace.
Burial will be a private graveside service. Arrangements by Rausch Funeral Home, Port Republic, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvert Hospice, 238 Merrimac Court, Prince Frederick, MD 20678, or to Christ Church Calvert County, 3100 Broomes Island Road, Port Republic, MD 20676.
