Michael Bruce Worster
October 25, 1942 – July 31, 2019
MICHAEL BRUCE WORSTER, 76, of St. Leonard, Md., passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at home. Bruce was the son of Russell and Doris Worster. He grew up with a father who was an avid fisherman and mother who loved to sing and play the organ. After high school Bruce attended Indiana Institute of Technology where he played tennis and earned a BS Engineering. In the fall of 1964, a friend arranged a blind date with a nursing student. He went home smitten with that nurse and notified his mother that same night this was the woman he planned to marry. They were married on Sept. 17th three years later and shared nearly 53 wonderful and adventurous years together. Children came next and Bruce set about earning an MBA from Indiana University going to school at night and working by day. Within a few years he set into motion his life long dream of owning a sailboat, a decision that would change the course their lives. In 1984, after years of sailing, they bought a bare fiberglass hull and over the next two years built the boat together laying teak, caning doors and making sails. Nancy became a professional sailmaker and Bruce’s mechanical and woodworking skills built the dream and the life they loved together until his passing. She was christened Crystal Vision and launched in 1986. Bruce’s professional career spanned decades working for Magnavox and with DCS Corporation until retirement. He was involved in the Sailing Club of the Chesapeake, was treasurer of the Flag Harbor Condominium Association and enjoyed his involvement in the church and singing in the choir. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters, Stephanie (Keith) and Jennifer (Doug); grandchildren, Jonathan, Laura, Quinton, Ava, Curtis, and Gillian; and great-grandson, Evan. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Ann Aughinbaugh. A memorial service celebrating his life is 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at First Lutheran Church, Huntingtown, Md. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Calvert Hospice, 238 Merrimac Ct., Prince Frederick, MD, 20678. https://calrverthospice.org/make-a-gift/ or the Bruce Worster Memorial Fund at First Lutheran Church, 6300 Southern Maryland Blvd., Huntingtown, MD 20678.
