Merle Hugh Robinson
December 20, 1930 – January 7, 2023
Merle Hugh Robinson was born December 20, 1930 and crossed over quietly and peacefully from this earth on January 7, 2023 at 92 years of age. Merle was born during the great depression and grew up on a farm in southern Calvert County without electricity, indoor plumbing and other amenities. They raised tobacco and food to can and preserve. He was shaped by this rural lifestyle. A husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather … he attended Johns Hopkins University on a full scholarship and was drafted into the Army during the Korean conflict. He was a CPA, business owner and builder but flourished being outdoors. He attended Officers Candidate School in Indiana at the rank of 2nd Lieutenant U.S. Army meeting the love of his life, our mother, Suzanne Catherine. He married this mid-western city girl from Indianapolis … and brought her to Maryland where she never quite acclimated to the Chesapeake cuisine of crabs and oysters yet made a life here. Six children were born from 1955 to 1963. He was tough and hardworking knowing the name of nearly every tree and would catch a bumblebee to show whoever might be impressed. Never failed to lend a helping hand and of course advice to his family and friends. He taught resilience and self-reliance and practiced these skills daily. Also known as PopPop he developed a relationship with all of his grands, and each share their special memories. We bid our Dad and PopPop goodbye for now until we are reunited with our heavenly family.
Merle is predeceased by his wife, Suzanne Catherine (nee Bradley) Robinson and granddaughter Courtney Smith. Merle is survived by his six children Michele Tucker (Sid Tucker), Beverly Knee (Ivan Knee), Brenda Hudson (Dana Hudson), Renee Lester (Brian Lester), Daniel Robinson and Mark Robinson (Tammy). He is survived by 15 grandchildren, Shawn Smith, Matthew Tucker, Luke Tucker, Bobby Tucker, Kelly Higdon, Kasey Cunningham, Ashley Lott, Abbey Ludeau, Brian Lester, Jr., TJ Smith, Chrissy Mahoney, Brad Robinson, Lindsay Robinson, Daniel Robinson and Tanner Robinson and 20 great grandchildren Evelyn, Perrin, Elayne and Penelope Tucker, Kai and Kamryn Higdon, JJ Cunningham, Remington, Ripkin and Reagan Robinson, Alyssa, Annabella and Annisten Ludeau, Adalynn and Ace Lott, Brianna and William Bromley, Troy Haley, Kayla Clements and Brayden D’Angelo.
