Mary Veronica Pockey

Mary Pockey, age 95, of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family.

Mary was the beloved wife of the late Edward Pockey. She was the mother of Jeffrey Pockey (Liza), Karen Palman (Glen), Corinne Voneiff, Joseph Pockey (Brenda), Eddie Pockey (Gail), and MaryBeth Johnson (Jay). She spent many years as a stay-at-home mom, and later worked as a dedicated bus aide, caring for children with the same kindness she carried throughout her life.

She delighted in her role as grandmother to Sean, Alexa, Haley, Alex, Noah, Nicki, Jimmy, and Noel, and great-grandmother to Leila, Cadence, and Natalie. Family gatherings, especially holidays, were her happiest moments — times filled with laughter, stories, and the comfort of being together.

Mary had a lifelong love of flowers. Her yard was filled with beautiful flowering bushes and trees in many colors and varieties, blooming throughout the seasons. From nearly every window, she could look out and see something growing, something bright — a simple joy that brought her peace and comfort.

Proud of her Croatian heritage, Mary lovingly prepared homemade recipes passed down from her parents. Mary kept Croation family traditions and recipes alive that will be cherished for generations.

Her faith was a steady source of strength. Mary prayed the rosary daily, finding comfort and peace in its familiar rhythm.

Mary is one of twelve children born to Croation immigrant parents Thomas and Clara and her many brothers and sisters — Frank, Barbara, Edward, Pauline, Mildred, Thomas, Matthew, Bernard, Anna, George, and Joseph — all of whom she held close in her heart.

Mary will be remembered for her generosity, her willingness to help family whenever they needed her, and her love of flowers and tradition. Her legacy lives on in the family who will forever carry her memory.
