Mary Linda Wegner was born in Prince Frederick, Maryland on July 12, 1942, to Leroy B. and Alverta Pearl (Miller) Williams. She left this earth surrounded by her loved ones at her home in St. Leonard after a prolonged illness.
Mary Linda grew up in Calvert County, living on the family farm in St. Leonard, attending Calvert County Public Schools, participating in 4-H and helping on the farm. She was a dedicated member of Christ Episcopal Church over the years. She was always close with her siblings: Virginia, Dotty, Bobby and Nancy and loved all her family dearly.
Mary Linda met the love of her life, Henry “Hank” Laurence Wegner and married him on April 3, 1959. She officially became a “Navy Wife” (often called the toughest job in the Navy). Mary
Linda and Hank had four children: Mary Annette, Larry, Joe and Michael and the military family spent most of their time residing in Norfolk, Virginia while Hank spent most of his time on Sea duty living through the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam Era. Mary Linda was an active -duty military wife until Hank retired and the family moved to Calvert County to build their home in 1977.
Mary Linda was a stay-at-home mom in the early years and was known for her cooking, baking, sewing, and ability to help others when they needed it, and her organizational skills. She later joined the workforce and began working as a bookkeeper. Upon moving to Calvert County, she worked at H B Turman Lumber Company in St Leonard and later worked for the Calvert County Government for 15 years in 2004.
Mary Linda was always known for her kindness and generosity, love of family and holidays, her wonderful cooking and baking, sewing, growing a garden and canning, her love for birds and flowers, all things red, white and blue, Elvis Presley, and most things Christmas. She was a strong advocate for special education and had to fight for services for two on her children. She loved singing in the church choir, helping with the church Tournament, supporting the Optimist Club and other organization, going to ships reunions and other trips with Hank, shopping and holiday get togethers including card parties and dinners.
Mary Linda is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Henry Laurence Wegner; her son Robert “Larry” Wegner; her parents, Leroy and Alverta Williams; her niece Cynthia Greene Horsmon; and her nephew Gary McCready.
