Mary Christine “Chris” Joye
December 8, 1951 – July 11, 2024
Mary Christine “Chris” Joye, 72, of Owings, passed away on July 11, 2024 at Calvert Health Medical Center. Born on December 8, 1951, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of Mary “Agnes” (Vaughan) and Frederick William Heine, III. Chris grew up in Silver Spring and spent her summers at the family cottage in Randle Cliff, Chesapeake Beach. She participated in competitive speed skating, through which she met the boy who would become her husband, Carl Joye, Jr., when she was twelve years old. She went on to become a consummate professional working as a mortgage lender, and by the conclusion of her career she had become Vice President of Mortgage Lending for Bank of America. Chris loved spending time with her family and was “literally obsessed” with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Chris is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Joye soon to be returning to the DC area, and Jessica Hammonds (Marlon) of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren Aaron (Keely Barco), Olivia, and Amaya (Jay Tyler) Joye, and Muffin Sugawara; two great-grandchildren, Paxton Joye, Jaxon Tyler, and a third great-grandchild, Kaiya Christine Joye, soon to be born with her namesake. Chris is also survived by her siblings, Fred Heine, IV (Mary), Celie Cochrell (Kerry), and Betsy Heine; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Agnes and Frederick William Heine, III., her sister Bernadette Williamson, and her former husband and special friend Carl Watson Joye, Jr.

Rest in peace nana. I can’t believe you are gone. But god knows what’s best for you. I will miss always asking Jay and Amaya how is nana doing? Your three special friends that live with you really going to be looking for you ..🐈🐈⬛😿. You will be missed. 🌹
My condolences to those who loved her. May God’s peace overwhelm all of you and comfort your hearts.
I spent many, many, many days with Chris and her family at their summer cottage. I even heard Celie’s scream the day she burned herself! Chris’s sweet mom and I played cards. Comic books and music abounded… So many memories… Going to the drive in with her mom driving her van then daring to drive through North Beach! Spending time done on the pier. I can’t imagine what my childhood would have been like without Chris and her family. I am rather sure there are many who grew up in Randle Cliffs who would second that.
