Marly Campbell Carpenter

November 11, 1931- November 14, 2022

Marly Campbell Carpenter, 91, of Lusby, MD passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 14, 2022. It was just three days after her 91st birthday. Born in Heuvelton, NY, Marly was the daughter of the late Albert Waldo Campbell and Gladys Dell Campbell.

Marly is survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert “Bob” Carpenter; her daughter Leslie Shay-Rouster of Cincinnati, Ohio; her daughter Lani Westendorff of Winchester, VA; her son Robert Carpenter of Flintstone, MD and her daughter Marly Carpenter of Bethesda, MD.  She was the loving grandmother of eleven and great-grandmother of seven.

Marly trained at Edward J. Meyer Memorial Hospital and served as a public health nurse in Buffalo, New York until marrying Bob in December of 1955. Over the years of their marriage, she and Bob lived all over the US and overseas in Korea. She developed a taste for travel, enjoying stateside trips as well as visits to the UK, Japan and the Philippines. She was also one of the first American tourists to visit a more open China in 1980. After moving from Springfield, VA to Lusby in 1997, her vast knowledge of plants made her a legend at her local gardening club.

Marly will be remembered for her commitment to her family, her gracious hospitality and her loud, infectious laugh. She was much loved, and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held in Lusby on 12/26/22 at her residence.
