Mark Louis Harmel

November 20, 1978- October 6, 2021

Mark Louis Harmel, 42, of Davidsonville, MD passed away unexpectedly on October 6, 2021. Born on November 20, 1978 in Annapolis, MD, to Julia Fay (Griffith) Harmel and Melvin (Mel) Joseph Harmel, Jr., Mark was raised in Churchton, Maryland. Mark graduated from Southern Sr. High School in Harwood in 1996. A skilled butcher, he worked as a Meat Manager for numerous years at various Safeway Stores in Maryland. Mark’s talent as a butcher created many opportunities for him to receive awards for his leadership in improving the department. His career also led to one of his favorite activities, grilling. Mark loved to grill for friends and enjoy the good times that it brought.
One of Mark’s greatest loves was the outdoors. He enjoyed many activities from golf to hunting, fishing, and hiking. If it was outdoors, you could find him there with a big smile on his face. Being outdoors went hand in hand with his other passion, traveling. Mark was always up for a trip. During his life, he traveled all over the country taking in the sites and spending time with his fiancée Juliet, friends, family. His travels often took him to the water where Mark seemed to find himself at peace.
In addition to his parents, Mark is survived by his children Sarah Harmel of Pasadena, Jeffery Sisler of Harwood, and stepdaughter Samantha Saylor of Prince Frederick, his fiancée Juliet Pruitt, his brothers Joey and Garrett Harmel, grandparents Sally Griffith, Melvin Harmel, Sr., and his wife Darla. Mark is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him dearly. Mark was predeceased by grandparents Winterson Griffith, Shirley Harmel, and great-grandparents Roxey and Sue Nieman, William and Mary Elizabeth Harmel and Agnes Roberts.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mark’s name can be made to any of the following charities: Comfort Zone Camp (https://comfortzonecamp.kindful.com/), Runway 2 Life (http://paypal.me/runway2life), or the National Organization for Rare Diseases (https://rarediseases.org/donate/). Services and interment will be held privately.

Although I had just begun to know him, I had become fond of his quiet and subtle sense of humor and his willingness to lead assistance when he could, an unusual quality in today’s world. May God continue to Bless him.

    Julia,
Is there anything I can say that will heal the hurt you are feeling right now? No….No Mother should have to endure the death of a child. I am so so sorry this had to befall you. I hope that Mark is at peace, and that you find peace as the time goes by. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you. Thinking of you and sending prayers and hugs.
    Love,
    Sharon Brown Polm
