Marion Katherine Howes

April 20, 1937- April 5, 2020

Marion K. Howes, 82, of Shady Side passed away in the comfort of her home April 5, 2020. She was born April 20, 1937 in Washington, DC to Florence and Edwin Malcolm, Sr. Marion lived in Virginia throughout her childhood and spent most of her adult life in Shady Side, MD. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Edwin, son Rodney, and husbands Rodney Bales, Sr. and Robert Howes, Sr. Marion is survived by her sister Mary Ellen and children Terry, Vicki, Vinnie, Tina, Robert, and Dennis, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as Grandma or Mee-Maw. Her door was always open, and her endless generosity was always available to family and friends. Marion was known for her friendly personality, warm smile and delightful sense of humor. She could often be found talking with friends and neighbors at the local laundromat, gas station, bank, or anywhere else she made her welcoming presence known. She was an exceptionally hard worker with many different jobs to her name. Marion worked tirelessly to provide for her family. Of her many jobs, being a mother and grandmother were most important to her. In Marion’s free time, she could be found enjoying a McDonald’s cheeseburger or watching her soap operas and crime dramas like “The Wire” in her favorite chair with an ice cold Coca-Cola. We all have fond memories of Marion and she will be deeply missed by her eternally grateful family and countless friends.
