Marian Rose DeBruyn
May 18, 1939- May 29, 2021
Marian Rose DeBruyn, of Owings, MD and Milton, FL, passed away peacefully May 29, 2021 at home surrounded by her family. Marian was born May 18,1939, in Washington, D.C. to Lucille and Robert Rettew. She married Cornelius “Corny” DeBruyn on July 28, 1956. In 1975 they moved to the home they built in the Odyssey community in Owings, MD. Marian lived with family in Florida during the winter months for the past three years.
Marian owned and operated a childcare center for over 40 years in Calvert County and had a profound impact on all the families she served. She was also active in her churches, Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Owings and Grace Lutheran in Pensacola, Florida. In her leisure time Marian enjoyed crocheting, working on puzzles, and spending time surrounded by family and friends. She was also a fan of the “Washington Redskins.” Most of all, Marian loved to sing! Whether it was in church, to the Christian tunes on the radio, or around the piano with her children and grandchildren — she sure did love to sing!
Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Corny; her daughter; D’Ann Bowen; her brother, Robert Rettew; and her grandsons, Jason May and Sean Pope. She is survived by eight children: Debbie Johnson of Brandywine; Dawn Wood (Doug) of Cape Coral, FL; Denise Bauckman of Prince Frederick; Neil DeBruyn of St. Leonard, David DeBruyn (Lee) of Milton, Florida; Dan DeBruyn (Daneille) of Isanti, MN; Dottie Barth (John) of Huntingtown; and Donna Busarow (Ken) of Milton, FL. Marian also leaves behind some of the greatest joys in her life – her 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marian’s name may be made to CareNet Pregnancy Center of Southern Maryland.
