On Wednesday April 1, 2020 Mae Irene Adams, 94, passed away at Virginia Hospital Center comfortably with assistance from her granddaughter Taryn during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Mae was born in Scituate, Rhode Island September 11, 1925, the youngest of nine children.  She married her beloved husband ‘Shorty’ (Oliver Raymond Adams) in 1949 in Warwick, Rhode Island.  Mae was a jewelry stone setter and very proud of her work.  Shorty’s job moved the family to Maryland in 1964 where she primarily was a homemaker and occasionally worked outside the home.  She was a wonderful and loving mom to her son Raymond and daughter Debbie. Mae and Shorty spent ten years in Bethany Beach, Delaware after Shorty retired.  Mae loved lying on the beach while Shorty looked for ‘Treasure’ with his metal detector.  She loved having the grandchildren come for their summer visits at Bethany Beach and she and kids shared so many crazy stories of their adventures.  Mae and Shorty returned to Maryland in 1997 to be closer to their family.  They were always the cutest couple and inseparable until Shorty passed in 2010, they shared love of family, the beach, slot machines, travelling, and watching sports together.

Mae was always feisty, strong, and devoted to her character and love of people.  She was adventurous in life and loved spending time talking with friends and family.  Growing up she rode her horses; Baby and Vick and drove motorcycles, the only vehicle she and Shorty had when first married, but they always kept a motorcycle for fun.  Later in life she loved riding in her daughter’s convertible, just to feel the wind in her face like she was riding on a motorcycle again.  Mae’s memory always amazed us, the details and accuracy stunned and jogged our memories to relive the past with her.  Those who had the pleasure to know Mae, knew she was unique, she had a deep sense of knowing, to recognize people and situations for who and what they were, and without hesitation she acted upon it and let them know.  Mae was given laughter, love, and special meaning to life by her family and friends.   In return we were given the same from her. She lighted up when her dog companions and best friends, Revly and Dakota (deceased) were by her side.  They took great care of her as she did of them.

Mae struggled with physical aging later in life with not being able to walk, it was very difficult for her not to take care of herself.  She was always a very proud woman, wife, and mother.   She is gone in body, but not her soul, thoughts, heart, or memories we share.  Her family and friends love her and will miss her very much.  She will always hold a special place in all our hearts.

She is survived by her son, Raymond G. Adams, wife Lynne; daughter, Deborah J. Sargent; Grandchildren, Joseph D. Sargent, wife Corbett; Taryn E. Adams, husband Robert; Heather R. Harding, husband Ryan; Lori M. Adams; Great Grandchildren: Cooper V. Sargent, Beckett O. Sargent, Elliot S. Overman, Wyatt G. Overman, Carson A. Harding, and Baby to be Overman.

Mae will join many she loved who have preceded her in death especially her beloved husband Oliver R. Adams and grandson Steven R. Sargent, may they all ‘Rest In Peace’.

Due to COVID-19 a ‘Celebration of Life’ for Mae will be held at a later date.
