Lorraine Catherine Ridgely
October 31, 1935 – November 8, 2022
Lorraine Catherine Ridgely, 87, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was a devout Catholic who loved and supported her family endlessly. On November 8, 2022, she passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her beloved family after complications from hip surgery.
She was born on October 31, 1935, in Fall River, MA to Peter S. and Margaret Attar (Joseph). Years later after graduating from Durfee High School, she decided to chase her dreams and traveled to Washington, DC to start her career. She lived at The YWCA until she secured a clerical position at The Pentagon. She went on to marry David Ridgely in September of 1959, and they made their home in Upper Marlboro where they happily lived for 59 years. Lorraine retired from The Department of Defense at Andrews Air Force Base after 30 years of service.
After retirement, she became affectionately called Gaga by her beloved grandson and granddaughter and has since become known as Gaga by all who cherished her. She and her husband, “Pop Pop”, helped raise their grandchildren. She often remarked that those were some of the best years of her life. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting, watching her favorite sport teams-Maryland Terrapins, Orioles and Ravens play, eating crabs with family on the deck, and vacationing to Massachusetts every year to see her family.
Lorraine is survived by her loving husband David Ridgely, son Gregory Ridgely and his wife Denise, daughter Margie Ridgely, grandson, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, brothers Albert and Henry Attar, and sister Jamel Ellery. She was preceded in death by her sisters Alice Zitano, Jeannette Halliwell, and her brothers George, Nassiff, Jamiel, Toffee, and Samuel.

My sincerest condolences on the loss of Aunty Lorraine. Thinking of all of you during this difficult time. Cherish the wonderful memories made with her and carry them with you throughout your life. Those memories helped me stay strong when I lost my grandmother, Alice Zitano. Aunty Lorraine and my Grandmother are now dancing away in heaven, just like they did every time they saw each other. ❤️
Will always remember my childhood days with you. Eating crabs going to soft ball games. Enjoying your visits to fall river to visit with your family and my grandmother Alice. R. I. P. I’m sure you are dancing around up there like you did threw out you life. You will be missed
