December 30, 1940 – April 7, 2025

On December 30, 1940, in the small coal-mining town of Fonde, Kentucky, Linda Lou Murrell Hugglestone made her entrance into the world, bringing with her a warmth and kindness that would touch countless lives over her 84 remarkable years. It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce her passing on April 7, 2025, in Bradenton, Florida, where she spent her final years surrounded by friends who became family.
Linda’s journey was filled with love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to nurturing those around her. She grew up in Fonde, Kentucky and later Hamilton, Ohio, where she laid the foundation for a life rich in love and service. On December 28, 1964, she married her beloved James Alan Hugglestone, embarking on a partnership that was as enduring as it was loving.
A passionate educator, Linda dedicated her career to teaching elementary and middle school students in Hamilton, Ohio, and Prince Georges and Calvert Counties, Maryland. Most of her teaching years were spent at Calvert Middle School, where her gentle patience and kindness left an indelible mark on her students and colleagues alike. She retired in 1991, leaving behind a legacy of inspired young minds.
Linda and James relocated to Port Charlotte, Florida where they built a vibrant life filled with community involvement. More recently, Linda lived her last joyous years in Bradenton, Florida. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and enjoyed the camaraderie of her Bunco group, where laughter and friendship were always in ample supply.
Her kindness and patience were legendary, traits that made her beloved by everyone fortunate enough to cross her path. Linda’s family was her pride and joy, and she leaves behind a lineage that carries her spirit forward. She is survived by her loving daughter, Leslie Murrell Boock (William), and sons David Alan Hugglestone (Diana), and James Aubrey William Hugglestone II (Kristi), sister Olive Belle (Murrell) Young, brother Kenneth Lee Murrell, grandchildren Rebecca Langham, James Hugglestone III, Liam Hugglestone, Megan (Boock) Halldorson (Andrew), and Mario Bohorquez. She was predeceased by her husband James (Jim/Alan), son Jeffrey Alan Hugglestone, parents Edna Ruby (Mace) Murrell and Hobart McKinley Murrell, brothers John Hicks, Herbert, Samuel, and Clyde, aunt Betty (Mace) McDonald, who was also a very dear friend, and many other brother- and sister- in laws, cousins, niece, and other dear family and friends, whom she now joins in eternal rest.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 12, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Christ Church in Port Republic, Maryland, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Linda will be laid to rest immediately following the service, where she will find peace in the embrace of those who have gone before her.
In celebrating Linda’s life, we remember her not only for her achievements but for the love she shared so freely. Her legacy is one of compassion, warmth, and a gentle spirit that will forever be missed but never forgotten.

My sister Linda and your Linda were good friends as they taught together at Calvert Middle. Now they are both angels together. May your memories heal your heart.

David and Jimmy I’m sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. Mrs. Hugglestone was one of my favorite teachers in middle school. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
David: I was very sorry to learn of your mom’s passing. I always thought she was such a good person and so likeable. Please extend my sympathies to the rest of your family. Gregg Hutchins, Prince Frederick, MD
