Lawrence Hugh “Larry” Ricks
March 5, 1946- January 20, 2021

Lawrence H. “Larry” Ricks, 74, of Chesapeake Beach, MD passed away January 20, 2021. Larry was born March 5, 1946 in Washington, D.C. to Mary Louise (O’Donnell) and Hugh Ward Ricks. He was raised in Brandywine, MD where he attended Gwynn Park High School. He married Janet M. Butler November 4, 1966 and they lived in Camp Springs and Lothian, and moved to Chesapeake Beach in 1986. Larry was a surveyor with Operating Engineers Local 77, an engineer with RDA Engineering in Upper Marlboro, and for over 20 years was an estimator with Morgan E. Russell Excavating Company. Larry and Janet also owned and operated Dunkirk Pet Store in Dunkirk in the 1980’s. Larry was a fan of the Washington Redskins and NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon, and enjoyed bowling, watching sports, and spending time with his family.
Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife Janet, and his brother Thomas “Tommy” Ricks. He is survived by his daughter Tina M. Hedler and husband Donny of Friendship, grandsons Donald E. “Eddie” Hedler of Chesapeake Beach and Thomas M. Hedler of Friendship, and sisters Marion “Buttons” King of Brandywine, Shirley Wells of Indiana, and Deborah Day and husband Steven of Tennessee.
Services for Larry will be limited to invited family members, and will be livestreamed on the Rausch Funeral Home Facebook page five minutes prior to his service Friday January 29, 2021 at 12:00 Noon. A celebration of Larry’s life for family and friends will be held at a later date.

Larry was a awesome friend and to me was more family then a friend and missed every day we would talk every day and sometime have coffee together and he would laugh at dumb stuff i would say anyone who knew him knew he was a good man and father and cared for everyone and now is with his wife he talked about most of the time he missed her so … Larry u will be missed and was nice to know u and will never forget are friend ship
