Kenneth Steven “Steve” O’Neill, 68, of Tracy’s Landing, MD crossed over peacefully on November 3, 2020 with his family by his side. Steve was a loving father to his sons, Steve and Shawn, husband to his wife Judy, and brother to his sister Kathy and brother Donald.
Steve was born on January 24, 1952 in Annapolis, MD to Mary Priscilla “Sil” (Gibson) and Kenneth M. O’Neill. Steve grew up in Tracy’s Landing and graduated from Annapolis High School in 1970. Steve had many interests and passions, which were heavily reflected in his deep Southern Maryland roots. He worked the family tobacco farm at an early age; he was a master craftsman with wood, a proud waterman, expert gardener, and an extraordinary trap shooter. One of Steve’s many great virtues was his ability to put others before himself. His home and garden were always open to anyone in South County and he tirelessly made himself available to anyone who asked for his help. Steve’s virtues of honesty, integrity, and respect will be carried on proudly through his sons and grandchildren.
Lastly, this remembrance would not be complete without mentioning Steve’s reputation for growing the best tomatoes and harvesting and hand picking the best crabs in South County, his genuine smile and good-natured personality, and his original “one liners”, all of which will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by all he loved and touched.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents Ken and Sil O’Neill, and by brother Donald O’Neill. Steve is survived by his wife Judy B. O’Neill of Tracy’s Landing, MD, sons Steve O’Neill and his wife Marilyn of Jupiter, FL, and Shawn O’Neill and his wife Angie of Pittsboro, NC, grandchildren Mac and Luke O’Neill and Jaime Bertram, a great-granddaughter, Hope Bertram, his sister Katherine Davis and her husband Chuck of Annapolis, MD, nieces Natalie Henderson and Priscilla Tallon, nephew Devin O’Neill, and his beloved dog, Skippy.
A celebration of life for Steve will be held in South County in the spring, for all family and friends to attend.
Contributions in Steve’s memory may be made to the Maryland Waterman’s Association, 1805A Virginia Street, Annapolis, MD 21401 or to the Deale Volunteer Fire Department.
