Judith Ann Tranmer

Judith Ann Tranmer, 83, of Huntingtown, Maryland, passed away on September 15, 2026.

Judith was born on December 31, 1942, in Washington, D.C., to Dewey Dillard and Flonie Mae (Hurley) Cecil. The middle of three children, she was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother, Ronald Wayne Cecil. She is survived by her younger sister, Patricia Havenner, who was by her side on the day Judith passed away.

Judith married Preston Eugene “Joe” Tranmer on December 23, 1970. They first made their home in Clinton, Maryland, before moving to Huntingtown, where they spent more than five decades together. Joe preceded Judith in death in December 2022.

Before starting her family, Judith worked as the chief loan officer for HEW Federal Credit Union. After the family moved to Huntingtown, she left her career to stay home and raise her children. When Brett and Paige reached high school, she returned to the workforce as a secretary with the Prince George’s County Police Department, where she greatly enjoyed both her work and her colleagues.

Judith was a devoted mother to Richard, Brett, and Paige and embraced Joe’s children, Joseph and Sherry, as her own. Joseph grew up as part of Judith’s family, and both he and Sherry held a special place in her heart. Judith endured the loss of her son, Richard William Tranmer, in July 2011.

Judith was a private and unassuming person with a wonderful sense of humor and a strong mind of her own. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she loved attending church and Bible study. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and working outside around her home. She especially loved gardening, although she always simply referred to it as “yard work.”

She is survived by her children, Brett Tranmer of Annapolis; Paige Curran and her husband, John, of Reston, Virginia; Joseph Tranmer and his wife, Terri, of Prince Frederick; and Sherry Tranmer Hancock of Bridgeview, Illinois; her former son-in-law, Tim McLynn; her sister, Patricia Havenner; her grandchildren, Richard Tranmer Jr.; Ryan Tranmer and his wife, Karen; Jennifer VanHuis and her husband, John; Joseph Tranmer and his wife, Amanda; Melissa Tranmer; Amanda Bikulcius and her husband, Brian; Brittany Youchison and her husband, Matt; and Suzanne Curran and her partner, James; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Judith will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and the many friends whose lives she touched.

A celebration of Judith’s life will be held on October 4 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Rod ‘N’ Reel Resort in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland.
