Joyce Margaret Joy, 83, of North Beach, MD, passed away on December 4, 2025. She was born on August 29, 1942, in Sea Isle City, NJ. Joy grew up in Warner, NH, and spent her summers in Townsends Inlet, NJ, where she developed her lifelong love of the “shore” life. She attended Keene Teaching College, where she met her husband, Richard Joy. They married in February 1962 and lived in Ellington, CT, until her retirement from Tolland Bank, after which they moved to North Beach, MD, to be closer to their grandchildren.
Family was everything to Joy. She was the one who kept everyone connected and was always there when she was needed. She cherished family dinners and the laughter that filled those gatherings. Joy enjoyed walks on the boardwalk, baking, crocheting, and feeding the birds and deer that frequented her backyard. She loved cheering for Penn State and Oregon football and enthusiastically embraced the hobbies and passions of her family—especially her grandchildren. Whether she was supporting their sports teams or joining in on the family fantasy football league, if her family was involved, Joy was right there with them.
Joy was an active member of Calvert Grace Church and enjoyed volunteering with her church family and being part of the community. Joy’s faith was an essential part of who she was. She loved the Lord deeply and expressed that love through her kindness, generosity, and quiet strength. Joy had a huge heart and was full of love, genuinely living up to her name—Joy Joy. Her gentle spirit and steadfast devotion to others reflected the hope she carried in Christ, a hope she now knows in its fullness.
Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Joy Sr., and her brother, Bill Allmendinger. She is survived by her children, Patricia Giunta (Raymond) of Ft. Myers, FL, and Richard Joy Jr. (Julene) of Alexandria, VA; her beloved grandchildren, Siena Joy, Nathaniel Joy, Jacob Joy, and Elijah Giunta; her brother, Jim Allmendinger (Karen); sister-in-law, Suzi Allmendinger; brother-in-law, Denis Joy (Joan); cousin, Ron Vansant (Charlotte); a niece, nephews, and many dear friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Joy’s life will be held in February.
