Captain Joseph Elmer “Joe” Ward, USMC (Ret), 85, of Owings, Maryland passed away Saturday August 26^th, 2023.  He was born on December 5^th, 1937 to Julius Russell and Esmerelda (Bowen) Ward. Joe was raised in Huntingtown, Maryland and graduated from Calvert High School, Class of 1955. In 1976 he retired from the United States Marine Corps after serving 22 years. After working at Delta Airlines for 22 years, he retired in 1994.

Joe’s passions included the United States Marine Corps, raising his beloved dogs, Duffy and Lexi, and walking around his property in the mornings with his dogs. He could often be found watching ESPN, Golf Channel and Turner Classic Movies.

Above all, Joe was a very loving and kind Dad and Grandpa. Joe is survived by his sister, Judy Ward Brightwell and her husband Walter of St. Leonard, children, Gregory Joseph Ward and his wife Linda Gail Isaacs (North Carolina), Misty Jo Callahan and her husband Victor Callahan (North Carolina), Stacy Elizabeth Glover and her husband David Glover (Alabama), David Charles Pigott and his wife Daniella Robbins Pigott (Alabama), grandchildren Zachary, Jacob and Elijah Ward, Jonathon, Caleb and Tanner Callahan, Mason and Miranda Slack, and London Riley Pigott, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Joe is preceded in death by his brother, John Russell Ward, and his parents, Julius and Esmerelda Ward.

A memorial service will be held at Huntingtown United Methodist Church on Saturday, Sep 23 with visitation at 1 PM, followed by a memorial service and celebration of life in the sanctuary at 3 PM.
