John Andrew "Jack" Barna

John Andrew “Jack” Barna, 90, of Dunkirk, passed away on September 5, 2026 at his home. He was born on May 21, 1936, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Mary (Ribar) and Andrew Barna. Jack grew up in Pittsburgh, where he attended St. Rosalia’s School, and went on to study at Duquesne University. He served in the United States Army from August of 1958 until he was transferred into the Army Reserves in July of 1960, and returned home to Pittsburgh. He moved to Suitland, Maryland and began working as a statistician at the United States Census Bureau, from which he would retire in 2001 after a long and successful career. In 1963, he met Janet Marie Wood, and they were married in April of 1967. He spent his life fully dedicated to his family. Jack loved playing football with his sons and their friends in the neighborhood and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Marie Barna; his sons Jason Andrew Barna (Shannon), and John Anthony Barna; grandson Jesse Barna; brother Robert Barna (Marian); sisters-in-law Kay Peterson (Bernie), and Nancy Osbourn (Dwight); brother-in-law Charles (Betty Ann), and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mary Barna, and his siblings, Sonny, Geraldine, Mary Ann, and Darlene.
