Janice Lynell Simpson
November 29, 1957 – September 15, 2015
Janice Lynell Simpson, 57, of Prince Frederick, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 15, 2015.
Born November 29, 1957 in Daingerfield, Texas, daughter of the late James Francis and Joyce Kirby Christian, she graduated from the University of Louisiana in Monroe with a degree in special education and spent fifteen years as a school teacher.
She married Pastor Victor L Simpson in 1984 and they spent thirty-one years serving churches in Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma. They have spent the last thirteen years as pastor and wife of Emmanuel Church in Huntingtown Maryland.
She loved her family and friends. She taught several Women’s Bible Studies at Emmanuel Church and was a sought after speaker at Women’s Conferences across the country. She was also a cancer survivor for nearly five years and traveled extensively to give motivational speeches to those who are battling breast cancer. She was known for her homespun Southern humor, and her genuine interest and concern for everyone she met. Like Will Rogers, she viewed strangers merely as friends she had not met yet.
She is survived by her husband, Vic Simpson two children; a son, Christian Allen and a daughter, Victoria Leigh, and a daughter in law, Shasta Anne Marie, all of Prince Frederick. She is also survived by a brother, James Carroll Christian and his wife, Patti, of Colorado Springs, a nephew Jay Christian and his wife, Melissa, of Colorado Springs, and a niece Janna and her husband, Chris Summerlin of Denver.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 19th at 3PM at Huntingtown High School Auditorium. Visitation will take place at 2PM.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church for a work in Chihuahua, Mexico commonly known as the “Soup Kitchen”. To commemorate the deep passion Janice has held for the poor in Chihuahua, they have recently begun a new initiative to help the homeless named “The Momma Janice Project”.
