James Thomas “Jim” Quinn, 80, of Sunderland passed away January 4, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 16, 1941, in Washington, DC to Thomas George and Mary Bernadine (Poore) Quinn. Jim grew up in Montgomery County and attended Holy Redeemer Catholic School in Kensington. After graduating from Georgetown Preparatory School in 1959, he attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, graduating in 1963 with a bachelor’s degree in history. He later attended the University of Virginia, graduating with a master’s degree in history in 1965. Following graduation Jim taught history at Milford Academy in Milford, CT. He married Marilyn Bauer on November 20, 1965 in Waterbury, CT. The young couple moved to Maryland in 1967, where Jim joined his family’s business, Quinn Patent Drawing Service, retiring as President and CEO in 2007. Having lived in Greenbelt, New Carrolton, Bowie, and Dunkirk over the years, in 2006 Jim and Marilyn moved to a residence adjoining their daughter Mary’s home in Sunderland. Jim was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in North Beach and also volunteered his time with Calvert Hospice and Project Echo. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, watching baseball and football, and playing the stock market. His biggest priority was the happiness, security, and well-being of his wife and children.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Marilyn Quinn, daughters Mary Quinn Jaensch and her husband Robert of Sunderland, Amy Quinn Meade of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Kelly Ann Quinn of California, MD, and son Michael James Quinn of Baltimore. He is also survived by grandchildren Alec and Erika Jaensch, Sarah Quinn and Katherine Meade, Thomas, Henry, and Brian Church, and Willa Minkey, as well as great-grandchildren Scarlett and Maren Neff; sisters Frances Marian McCarthy and Mary Elizabeth Carroccio, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother William Joseph Quinn and son-in-law Paul Anthony Meade.

January 18 – Obituary: James Thomas Quinn

Was saddened to see Jim’s obituary in the local Calvert paper. Prayers go out to Marilyn and family. Knew Marilyn and Jim when they were attending The Covenant Community of Jesus the Good Shepherd. Fond memories.

Was surprised to see that their daughter Amy lives in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. I went to grade school at Immaculate Heart of Mary on Portage Trail. Fr. McIntyre pastor. Probably an early or original
family in the 50’s. Cuyahoga Falls was a great place to grow up. Was sorry to learn that their daughter lost her husband so early.

Will keep you Marilyn especially in prayer. It’s really hard not just to lose a husband but also your best friend. Treasure all the wonderful memories for they truly are ‘the flowers ???? in
winter ‘. Nancy C. Brosnihan CCJGS
