Uncle Jack is irreplaceable. He was the last of my dad’s sisters and brothers. Always had a smile and jokes to tell. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of he and Aunt Faye. He will be greatly missed and my sympathy to Aunt Faye, Lonnie & Jon, Gary & Marcia, the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
I’m going to miss my buddy.
Jack could light up a room with his amazing smile. He was a great guy with a big heart. He was a hard worker and enjoyed life. RIP 🙏 I am truly blessed to have known Jack.Love ya Prayers and thoughts for the family
The Hutchins family sends our deepest condolences. Jack was a great man. I will always remember him and Daddy (Prettyboy) crabbing. Daddy would go over to Jack to see how he was doing and Jack would say ” not many today Prettyboy”. Daddy would get closer to Jack’s boat and dump in his basket what Daddy caught.
May God give you strength and guidance during this time.
With love,
Sherry and Lisa Hutchins
We are saddened to learn of Jack’s passing at The Calverton School, and we will be keeping the family in our thoughts, prayers, and light. We are indebted to Jack in helping to establish Calverton, setting its vision, and inspiring the foundation on which our school sits today. As a founder, Jack helped to place Calverton on a trajectory and we are most grateful. He sounded like a man of service and commitment, the same values we aspire to teach at our school over fifty years since its founding.
Sincerely,
Jamey Hein
Head of School
Dear Mrs. Hammett, Lonnie, and Gary,
I’m so sorry for your loss. Jack was a great guy. He and Billy did a lot of work together and Billy thought the world of him. I pray that the Lord will bring you strength and comfort going forward. God Bless you all.

I am so sorry to hear of Jack’s passing. I grew up every summer going to the family’s condo in Ocean City with my father Harry Zinn. My dad got the condo every year and I have so many memories there. Sending prayers to the family. May he Rest In Peace.
Mr. Jack was a very humble and kind hearted man. I only knew him when I was much younger but he never forgot a name or face. I last spoke briefly with Jack at my great nephews wedding at Jack’s river house (Zac and Sarah Godwin). When I told Jack who I was that big smile came across his face. May the family find peace at this time. R.I.P. Mr. Jack
Faye, Lonnie, and Gary we had a great man leave us here on Earth. We enjoyed the Great addition he did on our former waterfront home on the Patuxent river. Enjoyed visit up the road a few miles from our Naples FL home & all the great work he did with SMECO. Peace
My deepest condolences to Faye and the entire Hammett and Frank families! Over the years, I could always count on Jack, Gary and brother Oscar to repair and build almost anything. The company was so diversified…just one phone call and you could get a plumber, carpenter, handyman, carpenter or electrician. Jack was always very positive and humble. He was instrumental in the founding of The Calverton School, and served the community on numerous boards and organizations.
He will be missed by all!
My prayers and thoughts for Aunt Faye and her family and friends. I have many fond memories of visits with Aunt Faye and Uncle Jack both at their house and Grandma’s place during my earlier years with mom and dad. Another fond memory was the day Janice and I rode her horse bareback to visit them on Sixes Road. Oh my! 😊 There is a very special place for him as he strolls across Heaven. God bless✝️🙏💔😢
Rest in Peace Uncle Jack. Thank You for great memories & great times at your river house with all of the wonderful family reunions there. Aunt Faye, Lonnie, Gary & the rest of the family, you all are in my Thoughts & Prayers !!!
Condolences from the family of Robert and Betty Shifflett. Jack was a friend and colleague of Jack’s for a number of years and laughed about sharing the same birthdate. He is always held in the highest regard by our family, and joins Dad and Mom in his eternal heavenly home. Oh the stories they are sharing. Rest in Peace Jack
Robert (Bobby), Roy, Ed and Dottie
Faye, Gary, Lonnie and family: David & Judy are sorry to hear of Jack’s passing. He was a great friend. He sold us our property here on Adelina Road. David installed the electric on many of the houses he built. If we had a question about the past such as when did this happen or who did this or who was related to who he always had the answer. We will always have our fond memories of Jack.
Sending my deepest condolences, hugs & love to Faye, Lonnie, Gary & family. I’m so very sad & sorry to hear of your loss. Jack was a great man as well as a wonderful neighbor & friend to my parents and me for over 66 years. Jack was always so kind, caring and always full of laughter. I remember several years ago we met in Walmart at the cart section and he asked me if I was going to push him in my cart and I said sure, get in….He loved to joke and never saw him without a smile or wave. Sixes road will never be the same without him. My parents loved all of you as do I. There are just too many fond memories to say about Jack & his family. He will be deeply missed by all that had the honor of knowing Jack. My thoughts & prayers to the family during this sad time. Rest in Peace Jack, I will miss seeing you drive past our home and always with a wave and a smile.
We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the entire family at this time. I have many memories of Jack, Faye, Lonnie and Gary over the years at Calverton School and in our beloved community here in Calvet County. You could always count on him to serve his community in any way he could and he almost never missed a church supper or any other event . There are many who live in the beautiful homes he built throughout the county and he has certainly left his mark on many organizations and charities such as the Lions Club and the Historical Society. He will be missed by all who knew him. He lived a full life and I am sure you all have wonderful memories to help you get this difficult time. We are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers.
I am very sorry to read the news of Mr. Hammett’s passing…Jack was a very dear friend of my family, and I have many fond memories of speaking with him at our family farm from childhood years on.He was a very respected business owner, and was a leader in the local community in many ways..
Jack was a great man and an asset to our county. I’m so sad to hear of his passing. I’m always reminded of the song “Who’s going to fill their shoes” when I hear of one of my mentors passing, and the answer is simply no one. They just don’t make them like Jack anymore. Rest In Peace Sir.
Jack, a large man with a huge smile and a heart to match. Not only was he kind-hearted, he would reach out to see if he could help others in any way… he was determined. I remember him for many, many years trying to purchase our “Beach Property” on the Patuxent River… every time he would inquire, the answer was “Not Today”. So, from time to time, he would make another contact and try again – receiving the same answer. He LOVED that spot and really wanted to make a purchase.
As my Mom aged and the property didn’t get used as often as it had in the past… I could see the future of the property becoming a “Battle” between the siblings. Mom and I decided it would be better to sell it and the “First” person who came to mind was Jack. I think he must have been so excited when our Realtor contacted him; one of his dreams had come true. I could not think of a better person to sell it to as we knew his love for it and would take care of it.
When my brother, Richard, passed away, he stated he wanted his ashes to be distributed over the “Beach Property”. I didn’t know if that would be possible as it was not ours any more. When I contact Jack – he was so humble, kind, inviting and accommodating. We will never forget Jack’s Kindness shown to our family.
It is with a heavy heart that I hear of his passing – but – I KNOW God has plans. HE could not have picked a better person to extend the beautification of HIS GARDEN!!!
To all of the Hammett Family,
You were so blessed to have such a wonderful man in your lives for such a long time. I treasure the time I had with him, the work he did to help our family, all the work he extended to my family and the work he did to help make our house of Penwick a beautiful home and business. He was one of my parent’s best friend. I love to see him walk in the back door of the restaurant and grab a pumpkin muffin or two from the tray right after they came out of the oven.
Jack was such a kind man and would listen to any problems you were having and help you to sort them out…. for that I was grateful. I am know he will be surely missed by so many people. My heart goes out to your family with the deepest sympathy, prayers, love and hugs to each of you.
To Faye and the entire Hammett family, I was so heartbroken to learn of Jack’s passing. I knew him as a Lions Club member, along with his grandson Adam. Jack was a kindhearted, polite, and gentle man. He always had a smile on his face. One time I was following him and Faye to an event on Potts Point. He was driving very slowly and when we got there I said “Jack, you drive like you don’t know where you’re going.” He replied “I was pointing out old farms along this road to Faye.” He had along and wonderful life. Prayers to the family at this difficult time. RIP Jack. You will be missed by many.
