Isabel Scattergood Whitt

Isabel May Scattergood Whitt died September 26, 2013 in Solomons, MD. She was 94. Isabel was born September 6, 1919 in London, Ontario, Canada to Isabelle Dunbar and Walter Scattergood, and was raised primarily in Chicago’s Hyde Park. She married Jesse “Jack” Whitt of Madison County, NC in 1939 and raised seven children.
Isabel worked until the age of 88. Her career included positions with Oak Ridge National Laboratories during World War II; Bell Telephone; the Chicago Daily News; the Madison County, NC Board of Education; Carolina Realty in Sylva, NC; and the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. She was an avid seamstress and a charter member of Dogwood Crafters, Inc. in Dillsboro, NC, where her beautiful handwork was much appreciated. Isabel was especially fond of her many adopted pets. She also had a deep love of all nature and took pleasure in tending her gardens and watching the many birds at her feeders. She enjoyed traveling and new adventures throughout her life.
Isabel was preceded in death by her sisters Inez and Lily, and her husband. She is survived by her seven children and their companions: son William J. Whitt and Paulette Whitt of Chicago, IL; daughter Katherine I. Miller and Albert Miller of Sylva, NC; son James B. Whitt and Shannon Whitt of Ogden, UT; son Michael W. Whitt and Susan High of Arlington, VA; daughter Ginny W. McNair and Matthew Fiero of Sequim, WA; daughter Roxana L. Whitt and John C. Prouty of Huntingtown, MD; son John A. Whitt of Waynesville, NC; and by 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
